International media development

Since 1965 DW Akademie has been conducting a variety of media development projects to reinforce free and independent media, particularly in developing and transition countries. Our experts advise broadcasting executives, train young, up-and-coming journalists and provide professional coaching to media engineers, to name just a few examples. Every year around 3,000 individuals take part in DW Akademie’s training and workshop programs.

In Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia, DW Akademie engages in long-term partnerships with local broadcasters and media institutions. Jointly we develop and implement concepts tailored to their specific needs. For this reason, we generally cannot consider individual applications to attend our workshops.

DW Akademie’s work is financed through public funding provided mainly by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Foreign Ministry and the European Union.

Training opportunities in Germany

DW Akademie offers media training in Bonn and Berlin. In state-of-the-art TV and radio studios, our clients can hone their interview skills in simulated situations and develop a more professional approach to the media.

DW Akademie also conducts seminars and workshops for Deutsche Welle staff and trainees. Our bilingual International Media Studies Master’s Program in Bonn uniquely combines the disciplines of media and development, journalism, communications science and media management.
