Sokkuram - The Cave of Enlightenment, South Korea
The Buddhist Sokkuram temple was completed in the year 774 on the slopes of Tohamsan Mountain. The builders had formed an artificial grotto by piling up granite blocks and covering them with a mound of soil. The grotto consists of a rectangular antechamber and a corridor leading to a rotunda. Seated on a lotus pedestal in the center is the statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha.
