Kino, the German film magazine, gives you a sneak peak at "Guardians," the new action drama from German star Til Schweiger. We also have an intimate portrait of character actor Martina Gedeck, the documentar "Der Bernd" about Bernd Eichinger, Germany's most successful producer, and a stunning documentary about the hidden world of the German forests from director Jan Haft.
"Guardians," the new film from German star Til Schweiger, is the story of Max (Schweiger), a veteran of the Afghan War, who is assigned to protect Nina (Luna Schweiger), a 15-year-old girl who is the only witness to a murder. Before the official premiere, Schweiger screened his film to German troops stationed in Afghanistan.
"Guardians" is a bold change of pace for Schweiger, who is best known for his hugely successful romantic comedies.
Bernd Eichinger was Germany's most successful producer. With German dramas such as "Christiane F." and "Downfall" and Hollywood blockbusters including "The Name of the Rose" and "The Fantastic Four", Eichinger packed cinemas worldwide. In January last year, Eichinger died suddenly of a heart attack. The documentary "Der Bernd" looks at the life and work of a true film maniac.
Martina Gedeck has played East German writer Brigitte Reimann, RAF terrorist Ulrike Meinhof and composer Clara Schumann. Her international breakthrough came in the Oscar-winning drama "The Lives of Others." In "The Wall," she gives an intense solo performance as a woman who is cut off from the rest of the world by an invisible barrier. A Kino portrait.
For six years, documentary film maker Jan Haft went into the forest, to record scenes that had never been seen before. With the latest camera technology - he unearthed the hidden lives of the "ordinary" animals and insects in the German wilderness.
