Our guest on 16.05.2010 Paul Breitner, Bayern Munich Soccer Legend and Talent Scout

"Talking Germany" Presenter Peter Craven talks to Paul Breitner about team sheets, Munich and dialect.

Paul Breitner is an icon of German football. He played for Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and West Germany. Paul Breitner was born on the 5th of September 1951 in the Bavarian town of Kolbenmoor. After high school he wanted to study to be a special needs teacher. Football was just a way of paying for tuition. But his huge talent meant things took a different course. At Bayern Munich he was the trouble maker with the fuzzy hairstyle and beard. His Germany debut came when he was nineteen. In 1972 he won the European Championships. He scored a penalty in the 1974 World Cup final which saw Germany pull level with the Netherlands, before going on to win. He moved on to play for Real Madrid, the Eintracht Braunschweig and back to Bayern Munich. In 1983 Breitner ended his footballing career. Since then he has worked as a commentator for different broadcasters. Recently he has worked for Bayern Munich as an advisor and talent scout looking for tomorrow's football stars.
