The New Music Award, which has been presented every year since 2008, is organised by all of the youth radio stations belonging to each of the nine regional broadcasters which make up the ARD network. Regional heats take place in each of the station’s broadcast areas where local listeners can vote to select which performer gets sent to Berlin for the final. Once there, each band or musician performs a 3-track set to a jury of industry experts who then select the winner.

You can look at it like a miniature, national version of the Eurovision Song Contest and the competition serves to give a broad cross-section of the kinds of music being made across Germany. So in the next half hour expect brand new music from the likes of Adolar, Anne Haight, Who Killed Frank? and Jan Röttger.

Plus we'll also be revealing who scooped the prize as one of the best new bands in Germany right now!
