Public Virtues
Public Virtues is a reflection about the values upon which our communal life must settle in contrast to the apathy and self-complacency that both freedoms and increased wellbeing tend to generate. Victoria Camps pledges in this book in public ethic, ethnocentric, optimist and feminist that should help fix our battered identities at every level-personal, social, national and political.
Currently, the average citizen lives cloistered in his/her private life and feels very little appeal for politics. Nevertheless, the quality of the social surroundings in which he/she lives requires cooperative behaviour, participation in public decisions and the conviction that there are certain common problems and interests.
This edition is also enriched by a final chapter devoted to certain public vices of citizens and politicians that do not contribute, precisely, to the reconstruction of public life.

Victoria Camps
(Barcelona, Spain, 1947). She holds degree in Philosophy from the University of Barcelona (1965), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1975). She has worked as professor of Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona since 1972 and Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy at the Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona since 1986.
She was Vice-Rector of the Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona from 1990 to 1993; independent Senator for the PSC/PSOE from 1993 to 1996 and President of the Senate Commission for the Study of Television Contents (1993-1995).
