Saba have leapfrogged to the fourth spot in the Iranian Premier League (IPL) after defeating their hosts Shahrdari of Tabriz 3-1 in a postponed game of 28th week.

Mohsen Bayat of Saba opened the scoring after just 8 minutes in the Yadegar-e Emam stadium in Tabriz, 528 km northwest of the Iranian capital Tehran, on Thursday.

Jaafar Bazri drew level for Shahrdari four minutes from the break but a Reza Enayati brace in the 45th and 55th minutes put the game beyond Shahrdari.

Saba manager Abdollah Veisi attributed the win to his players’ diligence and logical approach to the game.

“My players properly executed [their] tactical tasks and gained three crucial points,” he added.

The win took Saba to the fourth spot with 45 points, while the defeat leaves Shahrdari languishing in the 17th slot of the 18-team table with 27 points. Sepahan lead the pack with 55 points.
