Quantcast THE PAST:

THE ALT DOT OPEN MICROPHONE SERIES (1995-1996)
Chris Bodor was a natural on the microphone thanks to his college radio experience (WNHU, West Haven). All his rock journalism, film script experience, and communication skills melted into his new found writing outlet of poetry and spoken word performing. The open mic series ran its course after a year and a half. That period was Bodor's most prolific time. He was constantly writing and rewriting and polishing and fine tuning each word with each reading. He developed an ear and his writing without a doubt began to take on an audio component. He became aware of how a word sounded rather than how it a word looked on the printed page. During the '90's Bukowski died, Kurt Cobain died, and Bodor did not. Chris Bodor documented the spoken word scene that developed at his brother’s place in his first anthology, simply titled “Alt Dot Spoken Word” (Poetnoise Press, 1997).

ANTHOLOGY PROJECTS BY CHRIS BODOR / Poet Plant Press

After releasing "Alt Dot Spoken Word" (Poetnoise Press, 1997) to document the poems presented during the Alt Dot Spoken Word series Chris self-published his second and best known anthology “Poetnoise 2000”. Words emailed to Chris Bodor and Poetnoise Press.

And now: The Anthology Trilogy:
MY TIME - THE LUNCH BREAK BOOK (Poet Plant Press, 2007)
In 2007 Poetnoise Press was reborn as Poet Plant Press finding Bodor derailed from his train of thought and living in St. Augustine, Florida.

EMPLOYEES ONLY - THE WORK BOOK (Poet Plant Press, 2009)
In 2009 Bodor broadened the theme of the lunch break to include musings on work in general. "Employees Only - The Work Book" features poems and images that relate to work and the work experience. The ups and the downs. Pay raises and rat race mazes. This project is a milestone because for the first time Bodor has reached out to others for assistance. Michael Henry Lee from Bodor's day job came on board as assistant editor and Chris' wife Mary Beth handled all the office related tasks (Office Manager, if you will).
Highlights of this amazing print book project include three paper cut images by Jad Fair from band Half Japanese. Forward by labor poet Wayne Mason. The featured poet is factory cog Karl Koweski. Cover art by Henry Denander. A gritty photo by Linda Kay Lund. Written contributions by Mike Watt from the legendary band The Minutemen and fIREHOSE, RD Armstrong, t. kilgore splake, Mike Daily, and St. Augustine based opera singer Roger Geronimo, and more than 25 others.

  • Heroes

    "The hours are long and must be filled somehow until our death. And there's just not enough glory and excitement to go around. Things quickly get drab and deadly. We awaken in the morning, kick our feet out from under the sheets, place them on the floor and think, ah, shit, what now?"

    Charles Bukowski
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The Genius of the Crowd
    by Charles Bulowski
    there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity
    in the average
    human being to supply any given army on any given day
    and the best at murder are those who preach against it
    and the best at hate are those who preach love
    and the best at war finally are those who preach peace
    those who preach god, need god
    those who preach peace do not have peace
    those who preach peace do not have love
    beware the preachers
    beware the knowers
    beware those who are always reading books
    beware those who either detest poverty
    or are proud of it
    beware those quick to praise
    for they need praise in return
    beware those who are quick to censor
    they are afraid of what they do not know
    beware those who seek constant crowds for
    they are nothing alone
    beware the average man the average woman
    beware their love, their love is average
    seeks average
    but there is genius in their hatred
    there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
    to kill anybody
    not wanting solitude
    not understanding solitude
    they will attempt to destroy anything
    that differs from their own
    not being able to create art
    they will not understand art
    they will consider their failure as creators
    only as a failure of the world
    not being able to love fully
    they will believe your love incomplete
    and then they will hate you
    and their hatred will be perfect
    like a shining diamond
    like a knife
    like a mountain
    like a tiger
    like hemlock
    their finest art
