The SentimentalistsJohanna Skibsrud (right) has been named the 2010 winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize for her novel The Sentimentalists, published by Gaspereau Press. Looks pretty delighted to us! The other finalists were:

2010 Governor General's Literary Award Winners

This year's Governor General's Literary Awards honoured Dianne Warren with the fiction prize for Cool Water, a book of overlapping stories centered in a small town in Saskatchewan. Allan Casey won the nonfiction prize with Lakeland, an evocative celebration of Canada's lakes. The Children's Literature, Text prize went to Wendy Phillips for Fishtailing, a collection of fictional free verse poems that capture the angst and fragility of adolescence.

The American Library Association announced its 2010 children's book awards on January 18, including the biggest children's prizes of the year, the Newbery Medal for literature and the Caldecott Medal for illustration. This year's winners:

Rose's Heavenly Cakes The International Association of Culinary Professionals announced their 2010 winners on April 22, awarding Rose Levy Beranbaum's Rose's Heavenly Cakes Cookbook of the Year, with My New Orleans by John Besh, Ad Hoc at Home by Thomas Keller, and Gourmet Today among the year's notable winners.
The Country Cooking of IrelandThe Country Cooking of Ireland by Colman Andrews wins the James Beard Foundation's Cookbook of the Year Award. Included among the winners in 11 categories are Real Cajun by Donald Link, Baking by James Peterson, and Pasta Sfoglia by Ron and Colleen Suhanosky. The winners were announced on May 2.

Shortlist for the $25,000 2011 CHARLES TAYLOR PRIZE for literary non-fiction

At a news conference at Toronto's Le Meridien King Edward
Hotel, Noreen Taylor, prize founder and chair of the Charles Taylor Foundation,
announced the 2011 finalists. The jury — composed of authors Neil Bissoondath (Québec
City), Eva-Marie Kraller (Vancouver), and David Macfarlane (Toronto) — read 153 Canadian-authored books, submitted by 44 publishers from across North America. The finalists are:
