The Mayor of London has called on the capital’s businesses and big landlords both private, public, commercial and residential to help deliver London’s biggest ever retrofitting programme.


Retrofitting business premises with energy saving measures will not only save up to a billion pounds a year in wasted energy costs but could significantly help towards eradicating youth unemployment, Mayor Boris Johnson has told London's top firms.

Assembly to hear latest on air quality and noise pollution around Heathrow Airport

News from John Biggs: Action needed now to tackle unemployment in City & East

 Local Labour London Assembly member John Biggs calls on mayor and government to tackle 12.9 per cent unemployment in City & East as jobless rate across London reaches worst level for almost fifteen years.

 

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics this week revealed that one in ten people across London are now unemployed. The number has risen by 28,000 in the last three months to 425,000. The London jobless rate of ten per cent is the highest since 1997 and the second highest in the country.

Assembly welcomes stronger voice for Londoners in how the Royal Parks are run

The London Assembly's Environment Committee has welcomed new management proposals for the Royal Parks[1] as an opportunity for Londoners to have more say in the way they are run.

At a meeting of the Environment Committee yesterday[2], the Mayor’s team outlined the planned make up of the new board[3] that will be appointed by the Mayor to manage the Royal Parks[4].

Budding environmental entrepreneurs urged to sign up to new 'Green Growth Bootcamp'

A pioneering emission-free supercar, retrofitted cycle racks and an environmentally friendly car hire scheme were just some of the innovative green businesses exhibiting at the Green Growth Bootcamp, launched today by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson at Kingston University London.


This is the latest in a series of sector-specific boot camps the Mayor is supporting which are designed to provide entrepreneurs with intensive business advice and encourage them to embrace new technologies, and develop the skills they need to build successful companies.

London celebrates 10 years of Diwali in the Square

Diwali in the Square marks ten years of celebrating the festival of lights in the heart of capital on Sunday 16 October, with a joyous mix of music, dance and live performance, as well as displays and food stalls.

Organised by the Mayor of London in association with the Diwali in London Committee, and with support from Lycamobile and Zee TV, the free event marks the five -day festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, which takes place between mid-October and mid-November and is celebrated throughout India and many other countries.

News from John Biggs: Questions raised about Emirates cable car deal

Local London Assembly member, John Biggs, has today written to Mayor Boris Johnson demanding further details about how the cable car sponsorship deal with Emirates came about. The letter follows a meeting at City Hall yesterday at which the Mayor refused to answer questions about the bidding process.

Mayor secures more than £11m to boost homeless hostels in London

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today announced he has secured £11.6 million in funding from the Government to improve homeless hostels in the capital.

The vital money will be used to provide refurbished and new accommodation, including over 320 beds, for organisations across London that work to help people come off the streets.

St Mungos, West London YMCA, Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association and the London Borough of Camden all submitted successful bids for funding, allocated as part of the nationwide Homelessness Change Programme.
