Well I think that my message will echo the thoughts of many who have posted here in saying a big thanks for the site. I also came across it whilst doing some family history research including the Devine family (1860-80ish) in Rothesay. I'm sure your site will help a lot. Thanks

Very interesting site. Hope to visit Bute to investigate ancestral environs next year. Looking for resident Duncan who may be affiliated w/McConnachie (spelled variously)

Visited your beautiful Island in June 2011 for the 4th time. I left at the library a document from the 1800's that was passed down thru the family. My ancestors lived at Ardnahoe Farm from the 1840's to the 1890's. I thought the document would be better off back where it belonged, on the Isle of Bute. Keep up the good work with your website. Hope to return to Bute in a few years.

I was born in Rothesay in January 1960 and still have family on the island. My wonderful cousin Wilma Huges and my uncle Alan, they enabled me to keep my memory alive on the island...miss the island very much.

I am reasearching my family history and came across this great website. Hoping that joining bsd I can find out more about the Mathies Curries Robertsons Balfours Crawfords and McCallums that have come up in my reasearch all from Buteshire from mid 1840s and earlier. Thank you - a great read.

I have most memorable memories of Rothesay where I lived for over two years and have good friend Martin there. I wish happy New Year to all Bute people.

My ancestors were the from the Isle of Bute, possibly Rothesay. They were the McKirdys. My family, the Corbin's of western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh, USA have a DNA link to the McKirdy family from Bute. We would love to make contact with our "cousins" in Scotland.

A visit of a lifetime to walk in the steps of my ancestors in Rothesay, Edinburgh, Kirkwall and Fife. All beautiful areas of Scotland. The heaviest rain we experienced was during the parade after the Highland Games in Rothesay when we and many others got soaked to the skin. Hope to come back one day and spend more time on Bute.
