Bridgedale uses Lycra® in specific zones of the sock to make sure the sock stays fitted mile after mile. The additional Lycra® is knitted to the under arch and above the heel to prevent the sock slipping down while in use. Lycra® is also used in the cuff of the sock to help the cuff stay up.

Bridgedale socks are great - warm, comfortable even over long distances, don't sweat up too much - I suppose the only negative is that they ARE expensive, but you get what you pay for! And the Amazon price is about as good as you can get. These particular socks are light enough to wear for normal everyday use, but also tough enough for long hikes, and I do like the right foot/left foot design though I suppose it is a bit of a gimmick.
