Coinstar, parent of the Redbox video rental chain, this afternoon posted better-than-expected Q1 results.
For the quarter, the company reported revenue of $424.1 million and profits of 46 cents a share; the Street had been expecting $409.4 million and 22 cents. REvenue was up 31% from a year ago.

This morning, Goldman Sachs lowered its price target on shares of Akamai (AKAM) to $45 as higher taxes will impact margins at the company. With the lower price target, Goldman reduced its EPS estimates through 2013 but maintained its buy rating.
According to New York Times management, the paywall generated 100,000 paid subscriptions within three weeks of its launch. Notably, the terms of the paywall offer the first 4 weeks of service for only 99 cents, after which subscribers will shift to the standard (higher) rates.
It makes lots of sense that Apple designed the system the way it did. But by delaying, hiding, obfuscating, and then finally talking down to us, all company managers did was raise suspicions about their motives. They really hadn't thought this file was a problem until someone brought up the subject and cast Apple in a nefarious light.
