Make a legal deposit

Most items published in Victoria – including books, CDs, DVDs and brochures – must be deposited with us and the National Library of Australia, according to the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and section 49 of the Libraries Act 1988 (Vic).

Once deposited, a record of your item will be available in our online catalogue and the National Library of Australia's Libraries Australia catalogue, and your item will be processed and stored in our Australiana Collection. Legal deposit items are kept in storage, but can be viewed upon request.
