Lifelong learning

For a general adult audience, we provide classes and workshops on a wide variety of subjects, such as library & research skills, digital storytelling, health literacy, genealogy and new media. Many of these are free.

As well, we hold a range of annual and one-off conferences and seminars featuring international and local experts. These cover family history, education and other topical subjects.

We also offer many other events, such as talks, lectures and tours, which may be of interest. See our What's on calendar for full details or our audio and video section to hear past talks.

We produce and make available a range of learning resources, including conservation guides, research guides and family history resources.

Customised programs

We can provide customised learning programs for groups on topics such as book reviews and author biographies, census statistics, history of buildings, and company and business information.

Bookings are required a month in advance, and a minimum of eight participants is preferred.

To book, call 03 8664 7099 or email bookings@slv.vic.gov.au. Cost is $5 per person, per hour.

We also offer free one-hour sessions that will teach you how to become an efficient and independent user of the Library's spaces, collections and services including the online catalogue. Call 03 8664 7099 to book a session.
