Websites

We produce a range of websites for students based around our collection, reading and key historical subjects:

  • inside a dog
The Centre for Youth Literature's groundbreaking website for teenage readers. Home to the annual Inky awards – for the best youth lit books.
  • ergo
A research and study website for students that puts Victorian history at students' fingertips by showcasing our collection. It links in with VELS curriculum guidelines.
  • Mirror of the world
For students and adults alike, the rich multimedia of this website brings rare and fragile collection material up close and personal. Based on our permanent exhibition Mirror of the world, it illustrates the history of the book.
  • Dig: the Burke & Wills research gateway
Teachers and students can follow the Victorian Exploring Expedition's journey through central Australia, discover all sorts of resources about Burke and Wills and even send questions to an expert.

Blogs

Our blogs are written by experts in their fields and tailored to both student and teacher audiences:

  • Read alert
Produced for teachers and youth literature professionals, this blog has news, reviews, opinion, booklists, author information, events and more.
  • Boys, Blokes, Books & Bytes
A blog for both teenage boys and literacy professionals, highlighting the books and authors that appeal to male adolescent readers, to encourage reading in this demographic that can be hard to reach.

Audio & video

We record and make available a range of audio and video that is suitable for students and teachers.

  • inside a dog downloads
Students and teachers can explore author talks and interviews (including presentations from CYL's biennial Reading Matters conferences), and listen to first chapters of new books.
  • 'Mirror of the world' audio dramatisations
Based on our Mirror of the world exhibition, this audio brings to life key figures from the history of the book. Students can 'hear from' Shakespeare, Galileo, Redmond Barry and more.
  • Event audio and video
A wide variety of talks, lectures and forums on a range of topics that may be relevant to classroom curricula can be heard or downloaded from our website.

Education kits

Packed full of ideas for classroom activities and discussion starters, and based on our collections and exhibitions, these PDF education kits will enhance student learning in history, English and communication.
