Maine families often gather around the local hockey rink like Californians cluster around the youth soccer pitch. Mike Goyette, a commercial fisherman, opposes same sex marriage because of his religious beliefs. But his partner, Jessica Libby favors them.
In Maine, the hockey rink is a parental gathering point just like soccer pitches are in California.
