Pendants: Dangle these modifiersSunday, November 7, 2010 When the mood arises to incorporate a staple into decor, clean and architectural pieces are always high on our list of go-tos. Pristine and spare, sculptural pendants offer an effortless means to enhance focal points throughout the house. The accessory makes an impact whether gleaming with bright light or dangling dormant. Pay homage to the classics with the wavy, hand-pleated Le Klint Pendant 172 designed by architect Poul Christiansen. The Danish designer constructed the iconic, whimsical form from washable, color-stabilized white PVC. This version, for about $395 from YLighting, is one of several similar lamps and pendants Christiansen sculpted between 1969 and 1978. The shades have been in production ever since. This pendant measures 13 inches in diameter and is more than 12 inches tall. From Ikea, the Knappa pendant lamp consists of dozens of petal-like tiers draped into a pendant shape. Crafted from polypropylene, this version measures 18 inches in diameter and is more than 14 inches tall. It's $34.99. High design or quirky take on an established favorite, either of these pendants grants shining opportunities. $395Le Klint Pendant 172, $395, from YLighting (ylight.com) $34.99Knappa Pendant lamp, $34.99, from Ikea (ikea.com) E-mail comments to home@sfchronicle.com.
