Jon Smulewitz, who also owns Dopo, was inspired by the aperitivo bars of Bologna, Italy, when he created Adesso in Oakland. Early in the evening and late at night he puts out free platters of his incredible house-made salumi to go with cocktails and wine. Any meal here is a treat, though the industrial surroundings, while stylish, can be very noisy. The menu contains more than 30 salumi, all made in house, and each one is distinctive, whether it's crespone with Lambrusco and black pepper or felino with vanilla bean and fennel seed. Also available: well-crafted cocktails, antipasti, sandwiches and three large plates such as short ribs with red wine or hen leg stuffed with pancetta.
Specialties: Any of the house-made salumi and pates; any cocktail.
Dinner 5 p.m.-midnight Monday-Wednesday, until 1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
