Mammoth's New Art Park

Hope everyone enjoyed their MLK weekends, despite the crowds and traffic. We'll start out the post-holiday week with a little bit of news from the far side of the Sierra.

Mammoth Mountain has opened a new "Art Park" on its slopes, featuring paintings and sculptures interspersed with the usual features one would find on a terrain park.

The Art Park will feature a new exhibit each season, the resort announced, beginning this season with a tribute to former Mammoth artist and snowboarder Jeff Anderson.

Mammoth management has this to say about Anderson, who died young back in 2003, and the art installation on their Web site:

"Jeff Anderson left his mark on the snowboarding community and the artwork from I AM SNOWBOARDING, a show that traveled the country last year, celebrates his life through art. "I AM SNOWBOARDING features a group of 44 world-renowned photographers and artists who have come together to pay tribute to Jeff. Each piece of art began with a photo of Jeff, which was enlarged and transferred to a canvas. Then, each artist modified the photo with the medium of their choice to create a unique collaborative work of art."

You can find Mammoth's Art Park on the Round Robin run near Canyon Lodge and Chair 16.

And here's what it looks like:
