Poang Rocking Chair from Ikea.
After a long day of trudging around the city or fighting for a seat on Muni, wouldn't it just be dreamy to hop on a rocking chair for a soothing cruise? That's right; rocking chairs aren't only for coaxing babies to siesta or porch-residing retirees anymore.
We came across a pair of these archetypal rides deserving of modern interiors.
From the lacquered maple legs to the wool-like Douglas Industries Woolen upholstery, we're all googly eyed for Ralph Rapson's Rapid Rocker. Architect Rapson designed this chair in 1945 for Knoll. This sweet-swaying seat for $1,475 comes in six classic shades: blue, black, red, gray, light brown and marble. Available at Zac and Zoe ( www.zacandzoe.com), this keeper measures about 26 inches wide, 35 inches high and 33 inches deep.
The Poang Rocking Chair from Ikea ( www.ikea.com) also offers a modern take on this simplistic piece of furnishing. The neutral birch frame makes it an easy fit for all sorts of interiors, but the removable and washable cushions make it ideal. For $179, it comes in a dozen colors from shades of white to gray, black and green and even patterns. It measures about 26 inches wide, 37 inches high and 37 inches deep.
No matter which one you rock, these chairs will put a classic twist on an old pastime.
