Emily and Anjan Mitra opened this Southern Indian restaurant in the Mission in 2005, followed three years later by a much grander space on Fillmore. While this one is more than twice as large, both offer a similarly bold menu. Chef Senthil Kumar, who grew up in Southern India, is a master at making dosas, thin crepes stuffed with myriad fillings; they're a must-order item. He incorporates bold flavors and a fresh California sensibility into his soulful creations. Service at both places is knowledgeable, and the innovative wine list is designed to go well with the food. The Fillmore location also has artfully crafted cocktails.

Specialties: Dosa (particularly masala); jumbo prawn masala with coconut rice; samosas North and South; dahi vada (lentil dumplings); house-made kulfi (Indian ice cream).
