Heavenly Lift Derailment

Heavenly's Mott Canyon lift is closed until the U.S. Forest Service approves its restart following a derailment Tuesday that required 14 people to be lowered from the chairs by ropes.

Russ Pecoraro, Director of Communications for Heavenly, said there were no injuries and the mountain is hoping to have permission to resume Mott Canyon lift operations on Thursday. Still, check the Heavenly Web site for lift status.

A snowboarder struck a chair at the base at 1 p.m. Tuesday, dislodging the cable mechanism, Pecoraro said.

Let's hope the 14 got a freebie or two.
