Estee Lauder, Harper's Bazaar search for real women models

Do you know anyone who is effortlessly chic? Not afraid to smile or smize (as Tyra Banks would say) in front of the camera? Could that person be you? Harper's Bazaar has teamed up with Estee Lauder for a nationwide casting search for women, Fabulous At Every Age.

"At Harper's Bazaar, we celebrate women who are fabulous at every age, because great style is timeless," said editor in chief Glenda Bailey said in a press release.

There is two ways to enter: First by going to www.harpersbazaar.com/fabcontest, or to attend a live casting call which will be held at select Estee Lauder counters at Saks Fifth Avenue locations around the country Jan. 20-22. Unfortunately, the San Francisco Saks is not one of the participating stores, so local ladies will need to enter online.

At the counter, women will have the chance to get a makeup touch-up from a beauty advisor, then pose for a digital photo which can be uploaded immediately to the contest microsite. Customers are advised to call ahead to schedule an appointment.

What do you win, you ask?

Five finalists, each representing a decade between 20 and 60+, will receive a $5,000 cash prize and be honored at a VIP party hosted by Estee Lauder spokesmodel Elizabeth Hurley at Hearst Tower in New York City on April 12. One grand prize winner will be selected from the finalists and receive an additional cash prize of $5,000.

GetGlovd, the germ-fighting accessory

New SFUnzipped blogger Cindy Ha considers the latest innovation in gloves:

"Antibacterial" is nothing new in the hand-sanitizing or cleansing market. But how about in fashion accessories? GetGlovd, a company that produces 100 percent natural bamboo yarn, is said to be antimicrobial and antibacterial, according to the company website.

During the height of cold and flu season, one can never be too cautious. If you're not quite brave enough to incorporate the surgical mask as a fashion staple, perhaps Getglovd could be the gateway product for your illness prevention needs.

I can't say whether these gloves decrease the chances of getting ill (my pathetically weak immune system prevents me from a thorough product test run) but I can say that the gloves serve the purpose of providing comfort and warmth.

Available in adult sizes for $19.99 and children sizes for $10.99 at Getglovd.com.
