Rumour: Microsoft to announce Avatar Kinect at CES

Sneaky photos taken backstage at the Consumer Electronics Show indicate that Microsoft will be unveiling something called Avatar Kinect at the event. Not much else is known other than a name at this point, but all should be revealed during Microsoft's CES press conference on Wednesday.

Further rumours suggest that Avatar Kinect "will allow Kinect owners to interact with each other using their avatars.

"The avatars will have a separate area, much like Nintendo's Mii channel, that will allow for users to control them using Kinect and interact to watch content or play games."

It sounds a bit like a mix between the Nintendo Mii channel and PlayStation Home. On the one hand, publishers stealing the best ideas from each other and reworking them into something new is quite common. On the other hand, the Mii channel and Home are not even good ideas, nevermind the best.

We're intrigued to find out what's what on Wednesday, regardless.
