Eat Lead: The Return Of Matt Hazard

King of shooting games Matt Hazard is back for one last game, and... wait... Matt Hazard?
They're a devious bunch of developers over at Marathon Megasoft. They've only gone and trapped washed-up 80's videogame superstar Matt Hazard in their new game, forcing him to fight hordes of zombies, soldiers, cowboys, space marines, soldier zombies and more. Honestly, we don't know what this industry has come to.

It's a wonder the police haven't got involved, really, but - what's that? Eat Lead is a spoof? Oh! Right. Yes, of course. We knew that. Ahem.

Eat Lead's goals are twofold. First, the guys at Vicious Cycle want to give us a no-holds-barred third-person shooter where the devs are free to use just about any ideas they have.

The fact the people at Megasoft are trying to kill Matt Hazard means any enemy, weapon or environment can be introduced to a level via a retro-looking 'hacking' graphical effect, turning a fight around with all the subtlety of a squealing handbrake turn.

One moment you'll be shooting zombies from behind a bench, the next those zombies will all become elite special forces diving for cover.

Once again we're looking at a third-
person shooter that's all about cover, though the plan with Eat Lead is to evolve the system, simultaneously smoothing it out and making it more in-depth. Once Hazard is hunkered down behind a pillar, saloon bar or sandbag wall, Eat Lead presents you with specific options as to where to go next.

A push of a button will send Hazard diving, or rolling to exactly where you want, instead of you having to detach him yourself.

The other goal is to make it funny. To that end they've hired Writer's Guild award winner Dave Ellis for the script and some American comedic talent for the voices. Whether it's funny remains to be seen, but the Matt Hazard fan site they've put up (doyouremembermatt
hazard.com
) is a great start.
