Clarkson Scraps New Album?

Reuters / Mario Anzuoni, File

Pop star Kelly Clarkson has reportedly scrapped her new album after label bosses weren't impressed with the record.

The 25-year-old singer suffered a scathing attack from Sony BMG chief Clive Davis after he heard the new tracks, reports Britain's the Daily Star.

A source at the record company tells the paper, "It was an extraordinary presentation. Clive was absolutely merciless in his criticism of Kelly.

"She's one of the biggest priorities on the label and her new songs were savaged."

The "American Idol" winner has been working on the follow up to 2005's best selling album Breakaway for 18 months, but has reportedly gone back to the studio to work on new tracks.

Knowles Withdraws Deluxe Edition Due to Lawsuit

Superstar Beyonce Knowles has withdrawn the deluxe edition of her latest album, B'Day, from sale, after British singer Des'ree launched a lawsuit, accusing her of ignoring copyright rules.

Des'ree filed a lawsuit in Manhattan last Wednesday, alleging Knowles never obtained proper clearance to use her song "Kissing You."

As a result, Knowles' record label bosses have agreed to temporarily halt distribution of the CDs that include the track, reports MTV.

According to the suit, Des'ree claims the strict terms her team submitted to Knowles in order for her to re-record the song were not satisfactory, so the former Destiny's Child star reportedly ignored copyright law and recorded her own version.

The terms stated Knowles couldn't retitle the song or film a video using the track. Knowles recorded the track as "Still In Love (Kissing You)" for the deluxe edition.

Des'ree is seeking $150,000 in damages.

Nelson Spared Jail

Country legend Willie Nelson avoided prison Tuesday after he plead guilty to one count of marijuana possession, escaping with a fine of just $1,024.

The singer, 73, was arrested along with his sister Bobbie, tour manager David Anderson and two drivers last September, after marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms were found during a police search of Nelson's tour bus.

Nelson and Anderson were each ordered to pay the fine and put on six months probation, in exchange for the charges against Bobbie to be dropped.

The drivers were not charged for possession of drugs because St. Martin Parish Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars did not believe they "had anything to do with the contraband."

Snoop Dogg Wants To Debate Rap Lyrics with Winfrey

Snoop Dogg has offered to appear on Opran Winfrey's TV talk show to debate the use of racist and sexist lyrics in rap music.

Last week, the hip-hop star's name was mentioned on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in a discussion about the lyrical content of rap albums and the effects such music is having on children.

But despite Winfrey's opposition to graphic rap lyrics, Dogg -- real name Calvin Broadus -- wants to sit down and talk with her on her show.

He tells MTV, "I'm a fan of Oprah. I feel like whatever they're saying about me, negative or positive, I appreciate it.

"I'm Snoop Dogg -- you can't (badmouth) me because I do so much right and I'm the person who represents me the best.

"Snoop Dogg is a father, he's a (football) coach, he's a teacher. I'm a man, and I do make mistakes and I'm willing to listen and learn. But a lot of times, they don't know me, so they have to speak on what they feel. But it is what it is.

"I appreciate you, Oprah. I've never been on your show, so thank you for bringing my name up on your show. I'm sure that'll mean another million record sales. Thank you."

Simmons Calls for a Ban on Some Curse Words

Music mogul Russell Simmons has called upon the recording and broadcast industries to completely ban "extreme curse words" like "bitch," "ho," and "n--."

The Def Jam founder -- who held a Hip-Hop Summit Action Network last week to discuss the sexist and misogynistic lyrics found in some rap music -- believes those in the hip-hop industry need to take immediate action to prevent the "growing public outrage" surrounding the casual use of such offensive words.

He says, "We recommend (they're) always out. This is a first step. It's a clear message and a consistency that we want the industry to accept for more corporate social responsibility."

Simmons' recommendations come two weeks after radio DJ Don Imus was fired from his CBS Radio job for referring to a team of female basketball players "nappy-headed hos" during a morning broadcast.

My Chemical Romance Star Taking Time Out to Enjoy Married Life

My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way has temporarily quit the group to enjoy married life.

The bassist wed fiancee Alicia Simmons in Las Vegas last month and is eager to be a good husband as he gets used to being married.

In a posting on the group's website, Way's brother, bandmate and best man, Gerard, writes, "The band has decided to give he (sic) and his wife a much needed break from the road to start a life and have a proper honeymoon and do all of the things a newlywed couple should do."

The singer reveals he's thrilled his brother has wed: "Watching him grow up into a man and finding love makes me the happiest brother alive."

An unannounced "temporary replacement" will join My Chemical Romance for the remainder of their tour.

Winehouse Sparks Engagement Rumors

British singer Amy Winehouse has prompted rumors she is engaged to on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil, after she was spotted flashing a ring on her engagement finger.

The chart sensation revealed the clue after being forced to change for a gig in north London at a local pub, after she was locked out of her home nearby.

A source reveals, "She realized she had lost her keys, but thought she could turn up at the venue with no problems. But when her car arrived there, she was greeted by a massive crowd."

Winehouse was rescued by the landlord of a nearby pub, who let her change in his flat before she emerged for the gig at the Dublin Castle in Camden -- part of the Camden Crawl festival -- showing off the huge diamond ring.

Simmons Holds Hip-Hop Summit Over 'Sexist' Rap Lyrics

Music mogul Russell Simmons called a meeting of his Hip-Hop Summit Action Network on Wednesday to discuss the sexist and misogynistic lyrics found in some rap music.

The Def Jam boss was one of a handful of music industry executives who met at the New York home of Warner Music Group's Lyor Cohen for several hours.

It hasn't been announced whether the summit reached a specific agenda over the issue, which was inflamed after radio host Don Imus called a team of women basketball players "nappy-headed hos" during a morning broadcast earlier this month.

Imus has since apologized, but bosses at CBS and NBC fired him, while a debate erupted over whether similar language is suitable in rap music.

Blunt Avoids Hit and Run Charges

Reuters / Mike Cassese, 2006

British singer James Blunt has narrowly escaped criminal charges for an alleged hit and run incident at a Hollywood party earlier this year.

The "You're Beautiful" singer and his then-girlfriend Petra Nemcova were leaving a party at Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd's house when Blunt reportedly drove his black SUV over the leg of an autograph seeker.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles city attorney's office says, "We've decided not to file any charges. We reserve the right to file charges at any time."

Lily Allen's Drunken Onstage Rant

British singer Lily Allen has launched an astonishing drunken rant during a concert in San Diego, Calif., calling George W. Bush a "[bleep]" and claiming she is "probably bisexual."

The 21-year-old turned angry after guzzling beer and cider onstage during her performance at the city's House of Blues last week.

She said, "George Bush is a [bleep] and a [bleep]" before also directing her vitriol at Tony Blair.

Allen then claimed she was bisexual because she was sick of men with "tiny [bleeps]" reports Britain's The Sun.

A concert-goer tells the newspaper, "Lily got really drunk on stage.

"She then started calling Bush names and the audience went a bit quiet. She also said that San Diego has the best crack whores she has ever seen and that she was thinking of becoming a lesbian."

The singer has hinted she is considering quitting her U.S. tour -- an attempt to crack the lucrative Stateside market -- because she's bored. She writes on her MySpace page, "Is it really important to break America? I'm bored."
