Michelle Williams snubbed Marilyn biopic

Michelle Williams initially turned down the chance to play Marilyn Monroe on the big screen because she doubted whether she could successfully embody the blonde bombshell.

The actress snubbed director Simon Curtis when he asked her to play the screen icon in upcoming biopic "My Week With Marilyn," but after eventually accepting, she admits the role proved to be more daunting than she'd imagined.

Williams tells Britain's Daily Mail, "I knew I wouldn't be able to resist, eventually... Physically and vocally, everything about her is different from me.

"I've kind of gone to school and had teachers to help me understand Marilyn, so I could project an essence of her.

"When I first approached the part, I thought that there were three, even four parts to Marilyn. It rearranges you, it shifts your molecules, lifts you up, spins you around, puts you back down and you're not quite the same, for better or for worse."

And the blonde beauty insists her performance has brought her closer to the "Some Like It Hot star," who died in 1962.

She adds, "I feel like we live together... At a certain point, something else does take over. I don't quite feel myself these days."

Michelle Williams: 'I'm an email addict'

Actress Michelle Williams forced herself to give up emailing and start writing letters while filming her new period movie "Meek's Cutoff" - because she realized she had become addicted to the Internet.

The "Brokeback Mountain" star shies away from searching herself online but loves nothing more than firing off messages to her friends.

But Williams made herself give up email during filming of the western - and instead began penning handwritten notes.

She tells W magazine, "I actively stay away from reading about myself. But I am a slave to my computer. I don't think that's good - would Tolstoy even have written Anna Karenina if there had been an Internet?

"I hate myself when I email. Email is like a dopamine hit - you wait for it and then you get it. I gave up my computer during my last movie, 'Meek's Cutoff,' which is a period piece about a woman on the Oregon Trail. I took to letter writing. My girlfriends got some great letters. But when it ended I was back on email. I'm an addict."

Williams Tipped For Monroe Role

Actress Michelle Williams has been tipped to take on the role of Marilyn Monroe in a new movie about the screen icon.

The "Brokeback Mountain" star has reportedly been offered the lead in upcoming film "My Week With Marilyn," winning the title role ahead of other actresses including Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams who are both said to have been considered for the part.

British newspaper the Daily Mail reports director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt picked Williams to play Monroe, but are still waiting for the Oscar-nominated star to agree.

The picture will document Monroe's time filming 1957 movie "The Prince and The Showgirl" with Laurence Olivier and is based on a diary kept by the film's assistant director Colin Clarke.

"My Week With Marilyn" is due to begin shooting in London in June, 2010.

Williams talks Jonze split

Actress Michelle Williams has ended her romance with director Spike Jonze, blaming their split on "impossible timing."

The actress began dating the filmmaker in July 2008, just months after Williams' ex-fiance Heath Ledger died from an accidental drug overdose in January.

But, in a candid new interview with Vogue, Williams reveals she is no longer in a relationship with Jonze because she is still grieving the loss of Ledger.

She says, "The timing was impossible. I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: it just makes things more complicated."

The actress admits she struggled to deal with the tragedy while getting used to being a single mom to her 3-year-old daughter with Ledger, Matilda, in addition to juggling the pressures of a new love.

But she concedes she was overwhelmed by everything that had happened: "I obviously don't know how to do it."

Williams: 'New Love Doesn't Mask The Pain Of Ledger Tragedy'

Actress Michelle Williams is struggling to find true love following the death of her ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger.

The actress had split from the Australian actor months before he died from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008, but she admits it has been tough trying to find a love to replace Ledger's.

Williams has said little about the tragedy, but tells the upcoming issue of style bible Vogue she still feels a lot of pain about the father of her daughter, Matilda.

She says, "I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain ... (but) it just makes things more complicated."

Eighteen months after Ledger's death the actress, who is reportedly dating filmmaker Spike Jonze, has started to move on with her life, but reveals, "For a while I thought we had lost everything. It makes you want to love better and live better."

And she'll always have a constant reminder of her ex-lover by her side: "Every time I really miss him and wonder where he's gone, I just look at her (Matilda)."

Williams: 'Fame Is Tiring'

Actress Michelle Williams has branded her stardom "wearing," because she is sick of wondering if photographers are lurking wherever she goes.

The former "Dawson's Creek" star, whose ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose in January, is frequently followed by snappers eager to get a picture of her with daughter Matilda.

And Williams, who recently fired back at the paparazzi for hounding her in the wake of Ledger's death, would love to go about her everyday life undetected by cameras.

She tells Parade.com, "I do sometimes wish that I could live with less attention but not being totally ignored by the world. It's very wearing to be a celebrity.

"I wonder if people are going to follow me or if someone is going to pop out of nowhere with a camera. I get very angry but I'm trying not to let it stop me from living."

And the star admits she finds it hard to brush off the press, because she is too polite to stand her ground.

She adds: "You're sort of straddling that fine line between being kind and courteous and everything that your mother raised you to be to strangers that come up and refuse to respect your privacy."

Grieving Williams Fires Back at Paparazzi Disrespect

AP Photo/Chris Pizzello, file

Actress Michelle Williams has slammed the paparazzi for refusing to let her grieve in peace following the death of her ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger in January.

In her first in depth interview since the tragedy, the star tells Newsweek magazine she'll never forgive the disrespectful snappers who have made her life a misery in the past year, and she won't forget them.

Williams tells the publication she was particularly disturbed with the efforts some photographers went to just to get a photo of her young daughter Matilda.

She says, "It burns a fire inside of me, the [bleep] that I've seen people do to get at me or my daughter. I won't forget it, and I won't support it. I don't want my daughter growing up feeling spied on or threatened."

And it was one encounter with an over-zealous female paparazzo that tipped the mellow actress over the edge.

She explains, "I said, 'You're better than this. Look at you! You're young, you're able-bodied, you have a brightness in your eyes. You're above this.' But you know what? She didn't go away."

And the intrusion has prompted Williams to seriously think about leaving her home in New York and walking away from her acting career: "If it gets to the point where I can't situate my life in a way that they stay away more, then I'll drop a match on the thing.

"I'll be sad. I like to act. It's saved my life over and over again. It's given me a sense of self-esteem, self-worth. I have this thing that I'm in love with ... and now it has this baggage."

Meanwhile, Williams admits the grief of Ledger's drug overdose death still hangs over her daily.

She adds, "It's so sad. ... I just wake up each day in a slightly different place. Grief is like a moving river.

"It's a strange thing to say, because I'm at heart an optimistic person, but I would say, in some ways, it just gets worse. It's just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone."
