Da Brat Faces Lawsuit for Alleged Club Assault

Rapper Da Brat is facing legal action over her alleged involvement in a violent altercation at Jermaine Dupri's Georgia nightclub earlier this month.

The hip-hop star -- real name Shawntae Harris -- is accused of attacking fledging actress Shala Stevens, who was working as a waitress at club Studio 72, with a bottle of rum on November 1 after a verbal dispute.

Harris, 33 -- who is signed to Dupri's So So Def record label -- was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with aggravated assault.

But Harris' problems don't end there -- Stevens reportedly is preparing to sue the star and has hired the services of the prominent Florida-based law firm Gary, Williams, Finney, Lewis, Watson and Sperando P.L.

Stevens, who is also a cheerleader for football team the Atlanta Falcons, will be represented by attorneys Willie Gary and CK Hoffler in her lawsuit against Harris and the owners of Atlanta's Studio 72.

Gary tells AllHipHop.com, "Our client was physically attacked by Da Brat and has suffered significant head injuries, permanent disfigurement as well as mental distress.

"Ms. Stevens is a cheerleader, choreographer, dancer, actress and entrepreneur, whose career has been greatly affected by this incident."

Gary claims Stevens has been forced to pull out of an upcoming role on Tyler Perry's sitcom, "House of Payne," as a result of her injuries.

He has also alleges that a manager who witnessed the incident failed to get Stevens proper medical attention following the attack, and claims the club's owners and security refused to removed Harris from the premises prior to the altercation.

Snoop Dogg Barks Back at U.K.

Convicted rapper Snoop Dogg is determined to solve Britain's growing gang problem -- if only his ban on entering the U.K. could be lifted.

The hip-hop star -- real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. -- was banned from the U.K. in March because of his drug convictions and he was arrested and cautioned at Heathrow airport on suspicion of violent disorder and affray in 2006.

Snoop claims "men in white wigs" and "laws from the 1800s" are preventing him from tackling the gang issue.

He says, "I love my fans in the U.K., they're really suffering by not letting me in to deal with the gang situation.

"I really wanted to be a voice to stop gang members, 'cause they respect me enough to get into a room with me.

"By not permitting me they're saying they just don't want me to solve this situation.

"It's not the fans, it's just a few people in white wigs and members of parliament. They got a problem because the judicial law is from the 1800s."

Rapper Prodigy Sentenced to Prison

Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars after pleading guilty to a weapons charge dating back to 2006.

The G-Unit star -- real name Albert Johnson -- was indicted on one charge of gun possession at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York on Tuesday.

The charge relates to Johnson's arrest last October, when New York cops pulled over his Chevy Suburban Sports Utility Vehicle for making an illegal u-turn. A search of the car turned up an unlicensed .22-caliber pistol.

The 32-year-old initially claimed he had no knowledge of the weapon, which was found in a compartment between his driver's seat and the front passenger seat, where hip-hop producer The Alchemist was sitting, reports the New York Daily News.

But midway through trial proceedings, Johnson confessed to ownership of the gun and struck a deal with prosecutors. The agreement limited his jail term to just three-and-a-half years instead of the usual 15 -- the sentence normally given to felons like Prodigy who are facing their third weapons charge.

The Game Pleads Not Guilty in Basketball Gun Charges

Rapper The Game has pleaded not guilty in relation to firearms charges relating to an incident at a Los Angeles basketball game earlier this year.

The rap star -- real name Jayceon Taylor -- is accused of allegedly hitting a basketball player on the opposing team before threatening to shoot him during a game at the Rita Walters Educational Complex on February 24.

Taylor appeared at a Los Angeles court hearing on Tuesday, where he denied felony charges of possession of a firearm in a school zone, making criminal threats and exhibiting the gun in the presence of a police officer.

He faces up to five years behind bars if he is convicted on all counts.

The latest legal troubles follow the 27-year-old's court appearance last week, where he was given a conditional discharge for a separate charge of impersonating a police officer. In that case, the judge ruled the charges against the hip-hop star would be dismissed in six months if he stays out of trouble.

Snoop Dogg Escapes Jail Term

Orange County Register / Bruce Chambers

Rap star Snoop Dogg has escaped a prison sentence in relation to a 2006 incident over possession of an offensive weapon.

The rapper -- real name Calvin Broadus -- was arrested after he was found to be carrying a collapsible baton in his hand luggage at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., last year.

Snoop pleaded guilty to one count of felony possession of a dangerous weapon in a California court on Thursday, and was sentenced to 160 hours of community service and three years probation.

Donald Etra, the star's attorney, says, "We are very pleased with the outcome. Snoop's goal is to make music, not make court appearances.

"He wants to get on with his life. He will continue his music and his filming and performing."

Snoop was also ordered to make a charitable donation of $10,000 to a charity called Right Trak, while Etra claims Snoop's felony conviction would be reduced to a misdemeanor after one year if the rapper doesn't violate the law.

Twista's Manager Claims 'Bus Raid Is Result of Racial Profiling'

The manager of Chicago rapper Twista has hit out at police -- blaming a recent raid on the star's tour bus on "racial and rapper profiling."

Manager Rawle Stewart believes the rapper was unfairly targeted by Michigan State Police after his tour bus was seized by 10 officers en route to Detroit on Wednesday.

The officers were acting on suspicion of handling narcotics and held traffic on the interstate for nearly two hours -- only to find no drugs.

Stewart says, "What started out as a two-car stop turned out to be six or seven Michigan State Police officers searching the bus.

"I think it was a case of profiling because they immediately assumed we had drugs and told us they found residue, but was letting us off with a warning.

"It was so petty. When it was all said and done, we didn't even get a ticket. They gave us a lecture like, 'In Michigan we don't tolerate that and if you come through our state again, you will get locked up.' There's people on the interstate passing by like, Is that Twista? They said to us 'This may help your career or it may hurt your career, but we don't tolerate that in Michigan.'"

Michigan State Police have neither confirmed nor denied the incident.

West Wins Chart Battle With 50

Kanye West has beaten rap rival 50 Cent to the top of the charts in one of the most hyped musical battles of the year.

The pair went head-to-head last week when their respective albums were released on the same day -- but West's third offering Graduation has taken the coveted number one position on the U.S. Billboard charts.

Graduation has sold almost one million copies since its release on September 11, making it the best debut of the year so far. 50 Cent -- real name Curtis Jackson -- posted sales of 691,000 for his third album Curtis, landing the rapper in second place.

But West remained gracious in his defeat of the star despite Jackson's claims he would retire if he failed to beat his rival.

West says, "It feels overwhelming. Everyone is coming up to me and telling me how proud they are of me."

Jackson issued the following statement: "I am very excited to have participated in one of the biggest album release weeks in the last two years. Collectively, we have sold hundreds of thousands of units in our debut week. This marks a great moment for hip hop music, one that will go down in history."

And Jackson has still emerged with one small victory over the rapper -- West's first week sales for Graduation may be the biggest debut on the U.S. charts for the last two years, but it failed to beat 50's record of 1.1 million for 2005's The Massacre.

Diddy Back With Porter?

Hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs and his on/off lover Kim Porter are back together again, according to Internet reports.

The couple originally dated from 1994 to 1999, before splitting when Combs began his two-year relationship with Jennifer Lopez.

They resumed their relationship in 2003 and the former model gave birth to twins D'Lila and Jessie in December. They also have a son, Christian, together.

Despite splitting again in June, the couple were spotted together at Combs' White Party in Long Island, N.Y., on Sunday.

An unnamed friend tells MediaTakeOut.com, "They are so much in love. It was tough for her to be apart from him for so long. But they needed that space apart to realize how much they meant to each other.

"Diddy promised her that this time, he'll do things properly. He even told her that she can begin planning the wedding, I'm so happy for those two. They were really meant for each other."
