Raiders-49ers film review

-NaVorro Bowman gets beat too often in small spaces. Last week he over ran Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, and on the Raiders first drive, he was juked by Michael Bush and Jason Campbell. As KNBR's Ted Robinson said this is not the time to develop young players. The 49ers should be playing their best players, and Bowman just isn't there yet.

-Mike Singletary said he thought the officials were calling the game too tight. That seemed to be the case with the holding call against Josh Morgan in the first quarter. Morgan kept his hands inside but was still whistled for the penalty against Stanford Routt.

-Singletary also said the tackles didn't play that poorly. On the first pressure allowed by Joe Staley, he was looking outside when he got beat to the inside. You wonder if he expected inside help. On another pressure given up Anthony Davis's man, Davis was actually helping Chilo Rachal, who completely lost his man. Davis then tried to pop out on his man. David Baas whiffed on defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and then allowed a blitzer to come throw on a draw to Frank Gore. Under these scenarios, the outside guys are getting blamed for the faults of the inside guys.

-On a first quarter run, linebacker Patrick Willis slammed tackle Mario Henderson back into the running back. Wills crouched and launched himself into Henderson which stopped the running play, and allowed Takeo Spikes to tackle Michael Bush after a 2-yard gain. Willis then did it again to Henderson, although not as dramatically, two plays later.

-The 49ers just abused Henderson. He had a rough day.

-A lot of pressures and sacks can be blamed on the offensive line. However, in the second quarter, Smith held the ball too long despite having an open Brian Westbrook down the sideline. He was eventually sacked. The Raiders covered the running backs with linebacker Trevor Scott, a clear mismatch, but the 49ers failed to take advantage.

-In the second quarter, Franklin stuffs center and Michael Bush got 1 yard. We haven't seen enough of that this year. If Franklin continues to be inconsistent, it would be good to see more of Ricky Jean Francois.

-Mike Singletary yells entirely too much. They pictured him on the sidelines in the middle of second quarter yelling at Brian Westbrook. What's he yelling at him for?

-They say that Alex Smith did a good job of throwing the ball away and playing within himself. He also got lucky. He threw a pass right to Rolando McLain and he dropped it. He missed Josh Morgan on a long pass and his bullet pass that glanced off Michael Crabtree's hands was nearly intercepted.

-Richard Seymour said Mike Iupati is raw. That's code for saying the rookie isn't playing well.

-I've never seen this before. During a timeout, Raiders coach Tom Cable called over Jason Campbell and left tackle Mario Henderson. He then gave Henderson an earful.

-The 49ers do this once a game and I bet it comes from Singletary. They get into a two tight end, two running back personnel group and they to pound it. It never works. They went with it in the second quarter and the 49ers went three and out.

-Alex Smith was 2 for 11 for 21 yards before a hurry-up, two-minute drive at the end of the first half when he went 6 for 9 for 77 yards with one incompletion on a spike to stop the clock and a throw away on an aborted screen. You might say, Oh, it's because he faced a soft zone, but the Raiders don't play a soft zone because Al Davis loves to press and play man coverage. Why the 49ers don't jump into a two-minute offense in the middle of game for a series or two I'll never know.
