In Berkeley, the vegetarian-vegan Saturn Cafe's retro-planetarium theme gets you in the mood for the Crispy Tofu Sesame Salad.

Remember the Jetsons, the futuristic cartoon family? You know: "Meet George Jetson. His boy, Elroy. Daughter Judy. Jane, his wife."

If the Jetsons lived in Berkeley and were vegetarians or vegans, they'd probably eat at the Saturn Cafe. The Space Age diner, a spin-off of the Santa Cruz original, is done up in a combination of pink retro and a planetarium theme. Despite its diner menu - burgers, chicken clubs, patty melts - the cafe is 100 percent vegetarian, with plenty of vegan options.

Burgers ($8.25-$9.50, with fries) are made from organic brown rice, nuts and vegetables. The chicken avocado club ($9.50) is made with a breaded Chix Pattie and soy-based Fakin' Bacon.

The milk shakes ($5.25) can all be made vegan, as can the nachos ($9.50) - you've got to love that. Like all good diners, Saturn also serves all-day brunch, including a vegan breakfast burrito ($6.95) stuffed with tofu and soyrizo and the vegetarian Heavenly Benedict ($7.95), an English muffin topped with two poached organic eggs, tomatoes and avocado drizzled with hollandaise sauce and served with home fries.

Even meat eaters are hard pressed not to find something satisfying at this colorful cafe. An extra plus: The place is open until midnight.

Saturn Cafe: 2175 Allston Way, Berkeley. (510) 845-8505. www.saturncafe.com. 11 a.m.-midnight daily. Credit cards accepted.
