(12-19) 18:55 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- BART riders traveling between the East Bay and San Francisco suffered through delays for much of Sunday after smoke was reported around 1:50 p.m. within the Transbay Tube.

Agency spokesman Jim Allison said a problem knocked out service from an electrical substation, forcing BART to shut down service on one of the two tracks through the tube.

BART opted to single-track the line between Pittsburgh-Bay Point and San Francisco International Airport, with one train moving through the tube in one direction at a time.

Riders coming from Dublin-Pleasanton were routed to a transfer point at MacArthur Station in Oakland, while many Peninsula riders had to transfer at Embarcadero Station in downtown San Francisco.
