'Housewives' stand behind Cherry in assault battle

The stars of "Desperate Housewives" have pledged their support to the show's embattled creator/writer as he fights assault allegations from former cast mate Nicollette Sheridan.

Sheridan stunned fans of the hit show earlier this month when she filed suit against Marc Cherry, claiming he slapped her during a row about a scene and then fired the actress when she complained about his behavior on set.

Sheridan also alleged that Cherry had verbally attacked former cast mate Teri Hatcher after she complained to TV executives on her behalf.

But it seems the existing cast mates are sticking by Cherry in the dispute -- they've released a joint statement supporting the writer, in which they state, "It would be irresponsible of us to let the public believe that being a part of this show from its inception has been anything but a blessing."

Hatcher, Eva Longoria Parker, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross also insist they have "no first-hand knowledge of what Nicollette may or may not have experienced."

And Hatcher is particularly upset that her name was used in Sheridan's grievance and has separately attacked the actress' lawyers for singling her out, claiming Cherry told the fired star, "I hope Teri Hatcher gets hit by a car and dies."

A statement from Hatcher reads, "I'm honored to stand with Eva, Felicity and Marcia, as a group, and clarify that our set environment is nothing less than an amazingly positive experience. I have never felt discriminated against. In fact, I have felt heard and respected by Marc and other executives in regards to both my professional and personal needs.

Hatcher Makes Gift for Departing Sheridan

"Desperate Housewives" star Teri Hatcher made a scrapbook for recently departed co-star Nicollette Sheridan as a keepsake of their time working together.

Sheridan's final episode in which her character Edie Britt is killed off aired on Sunday night.

Her co-stars paid tribute her during a panel discussion about the show at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles, where Hatcher revealed details of her gift.

According to People.com, Hatcher says, "I made a scrapbook as my sort of parting gift, and it reminded me of how great those two characters (Hatcher's Susan and Sheridan's Edie) were together."

The cast of "Desperate Housewives" has been surrounded by rumors of feuds between the female leads, but when the news of Sheridan's departure broke Hatcher scoffed at reports it was because her co-star was unpopular.

Sheridan Was Axed To Cut Costs

Nicollette Sheridan was axed from "Desperate Housewives" to save money, show creator Marc Cherry has revealed.

The actress' man-eating character Edie Britt bows out of the hit show on Sunday night, in a bizarre car crash that leaves her presumed dead.

Her departure comes amid rumors she was forced out because of a rift with her cast mates.

But Cherry insists he was forced by network bosses at ABC to cut costs, and the axe fell on Sheridan's head because her character had run its course.

He tells TV Guide magazine, "Edie's already slept with most of the guys on the street and has caused about as many problems as she could. There has been tremendous pressure put on me to cut costs … the network is saying to all the shows, 'The company is really hurting financially. You must find a way to produce these shows more cheaply.'"

But Sheridan, who was paid between $100,000 and $200,000 per episode during her stint on the show, accuses Cherry of wasting her character.

She says, "When you have a jewel, why not polish it and put it out there for all to see?"

And she warns axing her may backfire for Cherry: "(Killing off Edie) was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications."

Longoria-Parker and Sheridan's Celebratory Food Fight

Eva Longoria-Parker and Nicolette Sheridan's celebrated the 100th episode of "Desperate Housewives" in unusual style -- by indulging in a messy food fight.

The hit show wrapped filming on the landmark installment last year and the cast members treated themselves to a luxury cake.

But Sheridan had other plans for it, according to actor James Denton, who plays Mike Delfino on the popular series.

He tells British TV show "This Morning," "We brought a cake in and Nicollette and Eva got in a food fight. Nicollette started it, grabbing a big cake, smashed it in her face!

"That was our big party, then it was back to work. Seriously, she (Eva) had to go back wash her hair, re-do her make-up and go back to shooting."

Huffman Hints Sheridan Was Axed by 'Housewives' Creator

"Desperate Housewives" star Felicity Huffman has blasted rumors co-star Nicollette Sheridan was forced off the show by disgruntled castmembers, but hinted her character Edie Britt was written out by creator Marc Cherry.

It was announced last month that Sheridan would be leaving the show, amid rumors her character will be killed off.

The news follows much speculation of rivalries between the main female characters on the show, but Huffman -- who plays Lynette Scarvo -- insists she and castmates Eva Longoria-Parker, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross had nothing to do with her departure.

Huffman says, "Have you met Nicollette? You couldn't push her anywhere. That girl is strong and knows exactly what she wants. I love Nicollette, and Edie is such a great character."

But she suggests it may not have been Sheridan's decision to leave, adding, "Marc Cherry, he has to keep coming up with ideas to push the show forwards. I make sure I buy Marc lots of presents. I suck up as much as possible."

Metcalfe Hospitalized After Balcony Fall

(AP Photo/Lionel Cironneau)

Former "Desperate Housewives" star Jesse Metcalfe is recovering in a London hospital after falling from a balcony in Monaco on Sunday night.

Metcalfe reportedly hit his head and was left unconscious after slipping between a gap in a pathway at an after party following the World Music Awards, which took place in the tiny principality.

A spokesperson for the actor has confirmed emergency crews rushed to the scene after the star tumbled a staggering 40 feet.

The actor was taken to a hospital in Monaco before being flown back to London -- where he is currently staying -- on Monday. He was kept overnight and remains in medics' care.

Metcalfe miraculously escaped the fall without suffering any broken bones and is scheduled for release today, pending results of MRI scans.

A spokesperson for the actor tells British newspaper The Sun, "He is a very, very lucky man. The accident could have been fatal.

"I have just come from the hospital and he is baring up OK. He has not broken anything but can barely walk as he hasn't got much movement in his legs.

"Midway through the after show party at Jimmy'z on Sunday night he headed back to his hotel to change out of his suit so he could be more comfortable. On his way back he slipped 40 feet and was knocked unconscious. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Monaco and given X-rays.

"Doctors didn't speak much English so as soon as we landed in London yesterday we had him re-examined at a London hospital. They wanted to keep him in overnight so he could have a MRI test today. Fingers crossed he'll get the green light to get released tonight. Jesse knows he's had a very lucky escape."

Certain the fall could've been avoided the spokesperson adds, "We are going to speak to the organizers of the World Music Awards as the pathway was very dangerous and we heard someone else tripped up as well. It is an issue that needs to be addressed."

Harold Suffers Brain Swelling After Crash

"Desperate Housewives" actor Gale Harold remains in a critical condition in a Los Angeles hospital after doctors found he has swelling on the brain following his motorcycle accident on Tuesday.

The star, 38, was rushed to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he is undergoing tests and treatment.

Reports initially indicated Harold was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit after fracturing his shoulder in the crash.

But "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry remains optimistic Harold will recover.

He tells the New York Daily News, "We're hearing he's going to be fine, but he's going to be recovering for a couple of weeks."

Harold portrays Jackson, the boyfriend of Teri Hatcher's character, on the hit show.

And Cherry has prepared the show's writers for Harold's hiatus as he recovers, adding: "We know we're going to rewrite one scene."

No one else was injured in the accident.

Longoria Toilet Invaders Prompt Security Shake-Up

Security on the set of "Desperate Housewives" has been stepped up after actress Eva Longora found two strangers in her trailer.

The star was stunned to find two women using the restroom in her trailer after returning to her home from home during a break in filming last week.

The mystery ladies explained they had wandered off from a studio tour at Universal and needed a bathroom break, so they used Longoria's loo after finding her trailer unlocked.

According to the Globe magazine, Longoria confronted security on the lot and was told the minders had mistaken the two tourists as extras on "Desperate Housewives."
