We gather together:

In San Rafael recently, WildCare volunteers rescued four wild turkey chicks - small enough to fit in the palm of one human hand - whose mother was killed by a car.

The birds flourished and grew, and were recently released in Lucas Valley. The newsletter, as cited by Kimball Livingston, noted: "Turkeys are becoming adapted to human environments, but they have little understanding of traffic. Please drive carefully."

The same applies to human turkeys. Please drive carefully.

Guests sat down for lunch at one long table in the groves at Nan McEvoy's annual olive harvest party, on Saturday and Sunday. At a reception before Saturday's lunch, a trio of students from Marin Academy played what they described as "bluegrass and Bob Dylan"; among the musicians was Desiree Wattis, great-granddaughter of arts benefactor Phyllis Wattis.

This was in keeping with McEvoy's and Wattis' love for the arts, but there were other elements at the party, too. McEvoy has been a generous supporter of progressive Democrats, but among her guests was ad man Bob Gardner, Republican and friend of Dick Cheney, who owned up to having been part of Meg Whitman's ad team. I giggled; he chuckled. "Nancy just said," he said, nodding in Speaker Pelosi's direction, " 'The consultants always win.' "

Susie McCormick, executive publisher of 7x7 magazine, invited 50 or so pals to lunch at Campton Place last week to tell them she was retiring, with only a little bit of regret that she had so far been unable to live out her dream, being a backup singer in a country and western band. McCormick is former board chair of the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau (now the San Francisco Travel Association). The gang at lunch included Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who grew up next door to McCormick, and the former publisher's oldest friend, Wilkes Bashford, as well as hoteliers, luxury retailers, media people, Giants officials, PR and tourism pros.

The retirement is definite - "I'm outta here. I'm done. I'm finished" - but McCormick couldn't resist pitching the magazine's gingerbread City Hall, which will compete against others in the annual charity competition at the Palace Hotel. Her best line, however, was personal. The honoree, happily married to Jeffrey Brody, responded to 7x7 President Todd Sotkiewicz's observation, "Your husband is a truly amazing man," by cracking, "I have chickens, too."

P.S.: Among the guests was Giles Marsden of Tiffany & Co., maker of this year's World Series trophy. The morning after the Giants came home, he said, he was called in to "tune up" the silver and vermeil-on-silver trophy, which had been merrily manhandled in the locker room and on the plane coming home.

He took along tools, but all it needed, he said, was "a little cleaning. ... The thing had so much Champagne on it, it had a hangover the next day."

-- In a conversation Dec. 1 with Patrick Hatcher of the University of San Francisco's Center for the Pacific Rim, Sharon Stone "will discuss her human rights work to stop the exploitation of poor women throughout Asia." This event, at the school's Fromm Hall, is free and open to the public.

Press materials say that Stone is on the board of the American Himalayan Foundation and "has led the Dalai Lama into the Greek Theater at Berkeley."

-- When Cody Ross had dinner at Epic Roasthouse recently, and then went to Waterbar for oysters and cocktails, spies said he signed autographs and took pictures with guests who wanted them. And Timothy and Caroline Ferris had dinner at Bix on Saturday night with Nora Ephron and Nicholas Pileggi.

-- At last week's funeral for former Police Chief Alex Fagan, Willie Brown said he'd been seriously considering running for the temporary mayor's job, but would do it only if he could bring model Police Chief Fagan back to run the force.

-- Chris Borges, executive chef at Taste Catering, not surprised that Taste executive pastry chef, Yigit Pura, won "Top Chef Just Desserts," cites the discerning view of his 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Nola: "Yigit makes really yummy cookies."
