Celine Dion names twins after Nelson Mandela and Eddy Marnay

Celine Dion has named her newborn twin boys after former South African president Nelson Mandela and her late songwriting partner Eddy Marnay.

The 42-year-old singer gave birth to the tots in Florida on Saturday, marking the end of a long struggle with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments as she sought to expand her family with husband Rene Angelil.

The baby boys were discharged from the hospital on Thursday and Dion has now revealed the names of her newborns.

One baby has been named Nelson, after Mandela, and the other Eddy, in memory of the Algerian songwriter who died in 2003.

A representative for the couple tells People.com, "(Marnay) was like a father to her. Eddy is a major influence in both Celine and Rene's lives."

The couple chose the name Nelson after an influential meeting with the former leader in South Africa two years ago.

The rep adds, "Rene said that in just the few minutes they were able to spend with him, they were impressed by the human being he is. Celine and Rene want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men."

The couple is also parents to a nine-year-old son, Rene-Charles.

Celine Dion in no rush to lose baby weight

New mom Celine Dion is refusing to embark on a drastic diet to lose her pregnancy weight, insisting she's happy to wear larger-sized clothes until she regains her figure.

The singer gained 40 pounds while she was pregnant with twin boys, who she welcomed into the world on Saturday.

But the singer has no plans to try any quick fixes to shed the weight.

She tells French magazine Gala, "I don't care about my figure. I never have and I'm not worried. In any case, I'm not going on any diet because I want to breastfeed. ... Besides I have a really good stylist and if it's a question of going up a dress size or two -- well, so be it."

Celine Dion hospitalized

Pregnant singer Celine Dion has been hospitalized in Florida in an effort to save the star's twins from a premature birth.

The 42 year old is expecting twin boys with her husband Rene Angelil after undergoing months of invasive in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments in a bid to get pregnant.

Dion, who is not due to give birth until next month, checked in to a medical center in West Palm Beach, Florida on Monday as a preventative measure to make sure she doesn't go into labor early.

The singer is said to have made the decision herself so she can be close to her doctors in the lead-up to the birth.

A statement from officials at the St. Mary's Medical Center reads, "Ms. Celine Dion... has been admitted to prevent the early delivery of her babies which is a fairly common clinical practice for mothers of twins. This is done to ensure the patient can be in close contact with their doctors and clinical resources, leading up to their birth.

"Celine and Rene have placed the health of their babies as their highest priority... We look forward to the day of Ms. Dion's delivery of her twins. During this time, we ask the public and the media (to) respect the privacy of all of our patients and their families at our hospital."

The officials also confirm security at the facility has been stepped up in the wake of Dion's admission, and they dismiss rumors she is enjoying any special treatment.

The statement adds, "At no time did Ms. Dion or her husband make any special demands or requests of the hospital... She has not requested or selected any particular staff or accommodations not available to other patients... Although the family did not ask us to do so, the hospital has chosen to enhance our security efforts during this time for the convenience and safety of all our patients and their families within this same area of our facility."

Dion and Angelil are already parents to a nine-year-old son, Rene Charles.

Celine Dion's rep dismisses early birth reports

Celine Dion's representative has dismissed reports the pregnant singer is planning to deliver her twins early by Caesarean section, saying the star would "never intentionally endanger her unborn children."

The singer is expecting twin boys with her partner, Rene Angelil, after a long struggle to conceive using in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.

Reports have surfaced online suggesting Dion has picked a date for the birth and will deliver the babies on October 22, weeks ahead of her due date next month.

Angelil is adamant the stories are not true, telling People.com, "There is nothing scheduled. We do not have a date."

Meanwhile, a rep for the singer insists such an early birth would not be in the babies' best interests: "They (the doctors) want Celine's pregnancy to go as long as possible, at least until the first week of November. She would never intentionally endanger her unborn children by scheduling a birth early like this. ...

"Celine and her doctors are hopeful that she can continue her pregnancy as long as possible, and hope to get her to at least 37 weeks gestation to ensure the healthiest outcome for her children."

The spokesperson has also denied rumors Dion has infuriated hospital staff by handing them a long list of demands prior to the birth, adding, "It's all false."

Celine Dion upset by false pregnancy complication reports

Celine Dion's publicist has reacted quickly to dismiss French reports suggesting the pregnant singer has suffered a major health setback.

The star, who is expecting twin boys in November, was said to have been taken to hospital following pregnancy complications, but Dion's rep insists the report is "completely fabricated,"

The unnamed aide tells People.com, "She's never been in the hospital. Her pregnancy continues to be healthy and she feels fantastic.

"(Celine and her husband Rene Angelil) have gotten calls from friends worried that something is wrong. To be so happy and then to get these calls, it's been upsetting for them when they are in such a good place."

The website reports Dion has so far gained 33 pounds during her pregnancy, and credits her good health to regular acupuncture treatments and plenty of rest.

Her rep adds, "As with most women expecting multiples, her doctor wants her to stay off her feet as much as possible as she finishes her pregnancy."

Dion and Angelil have a 9-year-old son, called Rene Charles.

Celine Dion prepares for birth of twins in November

Celine Dion, 42, announced she is pregnant with twins on Sunday following a successful sixth attempt at in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

The expectant mother is relaxing and doing "almost nothing" to ensure she has a smooth pregnancy after trying to conceive for more than a year.

Dion admits her determination to give her nine-year-old son, Rene Charles, a sibling has been an exhausting experience and she needed constant reassurance about the happy news in the first few weeks of her pregnancy.

She tells Le Journal de Montreal, "They were truly great emotions (to learn she was expecting twins) after all our efforts. My doctors had to constantly reassure me. I (wanted) to see the babies. Each week I had sonograms. I heard their heart beats."

"I feel like I've been pregnant (for) more than a year. I never gave up. But I can tell you that it was physically and emotionally exhausting."

And the star has vowed to take life easy as she and her husband Rene Angelil prepare for the babies' births.

She says, "It's stressful but I'm relaxing. I look at my little belly. I do almost nothing. If you tell me I have to stay in bed, I will stay in bed until November, when the babies are born. To bring them into the world, there's nothing more important than that. It's incredible.

"We will have a beautiful family nest full of love."

Dion is expected to head back to Las Vegas next year, but she insists nothing will ever come before her priorities as a mother.

She adds, "There are no accomplishments bigger than (being a mom). The trophies and the money, that doesn't give meaning to life and that doesn't give you true happiness. A baby - yes."

Celine Dion's no-show at Winter Olympics spectacular explained

Celine Dion skipped the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in her native Canada - because she thought she'd be too pregnant to perform.

Dion's absence raised questions because many fans expected her to be part of the spectacular in Vancouver on Friday.

Instead, Sarah MacLachlan, Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams and k.d. lang took top billing.

Dion's representative has since cleared up the confusion, explaining that the singer was forced to pull out of a planned performance when she fell pregnant last year.

The "My Heart Will Go On" singer suffered a miscarriage just weeks after confirming the baby news.

But Dion is determined to keep trying for another kid and flew into New York for fertility treatments last week, according to U.S. news show Access Hollywood.

Dion is already mom to nine-year-old son Rene-Charles with her manager husband Rene Angelil.
