Black Ops zombies shot down by Treyarch

Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch has severely dampened chances of World at War's extremely popular Zombies mode appearing in the new game, telling CVG "this is it" as far as major feature reveals go.

Speaking to CVG at the Black Ops multiplayer reveal event in LA this morning, Treyarch community man Josh Olin said the developer only has "little things" left to reveal on the multiplayer side. We can't talk for it, but we wouldn't class Zombies as a "little" feature.

"This is pretty much it," Olin told CVG. "There are still some other little things that we haven't talked about yet but will at a later date, but this is pretty much the whole caboodle."

Asked if that means Treyarch's shown all major features for Black Ops, Olin replied: "Yes, this is what we've been working on for the past two years,"

Last month a retailer listed Black Ops zombie maps as freebies included with the game's special edition. Bar miscommunication though, it looks like we could be disappointed.

The first Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer details have just landed. Look for our hands-on impressions shortly.

Mmmmgrolsch on 2 Sep '10

Yup and Everyone will complain but grab it anyway.

This was a Multiplayer Reveal wasn't it? Zombies is co-op!
Multiplayerking on 2 Sep '10
if it aint got zombies i aint getting it.....
TykerD3 on 2 Sep '10
Wow, I thought zombies was a no-brainer for this game. Looks like Activion know how popular it is so they are going to include it in DLC for 1200MSP - seems like the likely scenario.
PGDZX on 2 Sep '10
Why do CVG keep saying that zombie maps have been confirmed for the Hardend edition. The actual poster doesn't mention zombies, it only says additional maps.
RustySpoon80 on 2 Sep '10
This message is not being displayed because the poster is banned.

Hmmm sure I'll buy this if it doesn't have zombies, but its replay value will be severely diminished.
davidmhodgey on 2 Sep '10
Yea I thought there was supposed to be a co-op reveal on a seperate date.

I think you're almost certainly right but I reckon £10 rather than £20. I'm almost certain I'll buy it too.
equinox80 on 2 Sep '10
Aren't these kind of reveals meant to make people want to buy the game. So far all the negativity over no public beta and now Zombie mode is taking the headlines. What a Failure.

no zombie = no buy
adastoy on 2 Sep '10
100% no zombie, no buy. The zombie mode is not DLC activision, it's the main reason WAW was worth buying. You can forget a purchase from me if your trying this one.
Adman on 2 Sep '10
Im sorry but how dumb can you get Josh Olin stated in one of his tweets that this event was a MULTIPLAYER reveal since zombies is classed as co-op it is definitely not unconfirmed.

Hes certainly right on both counts I reckon. But the suckers will lap it all up.

Drip-feed overpriced content that should have been in the game from the get-go.

One thing this gen has taught me is to steer clear of anything Activision as to not get f**ked over. I'll spend my money where its more deserving.
pRM8 on 2 Sep '10
Josh also confirmed via Twitter that the 4 Zombie maps from WaW would be coming to the Hardened Edition of Black Ops. So I think it's safe to say there is a Zombie mode. However if this is a c**k up and the Zombie mode isn't bundled with the game, I won't be buying it. I won't be paying extra to get it as DLC either.
MPH on 2 Sep '10
it'll be DLC, for £10. 100% sure. and people will say "its only a tenner" but MW2 had to "map packs" for £10, thats a £20 tax to carry on playing their game online so you end up buying a full priced £40 game, then buying half of it again(or half an old game if the mw2 map packs are a guide) just to carry on playing. jokes.
Braincleaner on 2 Sep '10
Zombies are included in the Hardened and Prestige editions.

DLC or a full game they have 2 years to make the next all of duty so making zombies inbettwen that time will help them a whole lot

I hate the way developers can take content out of a product, so that they can sell you the remaining bit at ridiculous prices. It's becoming increasingly popular, with the most blatent case being Assassins Creed 2 and its 2 missing chapters... Although it's legal, it leaves a nasty taste knowing that the developers have hurt the overall quality of the final product, in order to scam the extremely loyal consumers at a later date. Activision really are squeezing the life out of this franchise.
