ITV ended its tortuous search for a chief executive yesterday with the surprise appointment of Adam Crozier, the man best known for appointing Sven-Goran Eriksson England football manager, and currently the head of Royal Mail.

The head of the National Audit Office (NAO) was yesterday highly critical of BBC spending after the corporation paid £250,000 for a purpose-built studio with a view of the Vienna skyline as part of its coverage of the 2008 European Championship, for which no home nation's football team had qualified. The BBC spent £8.68m on covering the event, to which it sent 142 of its own staff.

Ambreen Sadiq is the only female Muslim boxer in the country and she dreams of Olympic glory now that women have been permitted to prowl the ring for the first time. But first she must overcome the chorus of religious disapproval within her own community. It began with some glamorous American women in figure-hugging clothing, then some welding. It wasn't a promising start. Would Cage Fighting Women (BBC4, Thursday) be another 'Flashdance', but with bandages instead of leggings, striking a blow for the downtrodden girls of the foundry and factory? Fortunately, there was no Eighties schmaltz. It was Jeff, husband and trainer of Lisa, building her a cage.
