E3 2010: Sony conference - LIVE

Move, PSP2, GT5?
Sony will be third on the platform holder schedule when it presents its E3 offerings later today.

What are we expecting to see? Move will certainly get a good going over with launch title announcements and maybe (hopefully) even the odd surprise.

There have also been whisperings that the PSP2, in whatever form it may take (console? smartphone?), could get an unveiling.

And maybe we could get a bit more info on Gran Turismo 5. A release date you say? That's a bit far fetched isn't it?

Our news hounds will be on the ground, telepathically writing directly to the web from 8PM BST this afternoon - right after the Nintendo conference.

Check back here for the live blog and stay tuned to CVG for all the headlines, media opinion and live streams we can find.

Live blog

Hi all. Tim here. Nice little opening montage from Sony there. Here's Jack Tretton. Let's go Tretton.

3D. Yes! 3 dimensions! Just like life. Chuck it at us Sony.

Got my 3D glasses on by the way. Looking forward to this.

Killzone 3 in 3D: Lots of jetpacks, lots of shooting. Lot's of 'wooping' from the audience beforehand...I let out a small British 'woop'.

When I said 3D glasses, You should know they're cheap cinema glasses. Demo works though.

Those jetpack thrusters looked dangerously close to the chap's eyes.

Killzone 3 compatible with Move. One guy in the audience shouts "Thankyou" - gratious.

3D really worked. Amazing in truth. People were actually gasping in the audience.

Gran Turismo 5 in 3D. Brilliant! A date would be even better though.

Glasses back on? But I never took mine off! My left eye aches. 3D is ace. Painful but ace.

Back to Jack Tretton. Hi Jack.

Tretton's talking about PS2. When will you let PS2 go Sony? We have PS3 now remember. You made it!

Here comes the Move, which apparently is all about 'realism'.

Another "future-proof" piece of tech. Just like the PS2 apparently. Oh no you mean PS3, right yeah.

Montage of devs talking about Move, get ready for phrases like "raising the bar" and "next level".

Kevin Butler's amusing ads are getting flicks of airtime. Funny comedy.

Butler got a reaction comparable to Killzone and GT5!

Sony want to Move to appeal to both casual and hardcore. Careful Sony!

First Move game up 'Sorcery'. Dev stretches and breaths deeply before game begins. Nerves or is Move really going to be that strenuous.

Accuracy impressive. Dev's surefootedness a bit annoying.

Actual applause from the audience. It's like an Apple conference.

Still, game looks good though.

From Wizardry to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Let's see how Move fares on the green.

'No pre-canned animation all one-to-one movement' says the dev.

He's nervous about taking this shot.

Takes it. Bunker. Unlucky.

Second shot. Second bunker. He says he's been playing for 20 years. Wonder if this is in the script?

Power also registers on the Move. No flicking of the wrist here.

Third shot. It's good. Just off the green. Nearly went in the bunker though.

He puts on par. Everyone's pleased.

'Heroes on the Move' announced. Features Sly Cooper, Jak, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank all in one game.

Kevin Butler takes to the stage! Prepare for tom foolery.

Butler takes a pop at Kinect. Three pops in fact, all in the space of about 5 seconds.

Arrogance is back. But at least this time it's funny.

Butler says it's all about the games.

Butler: 'Move is all about giving everyone a taste of the PS3 sugar" .

Biggest cheer of any conference was for a man filling time!

Here are the prices then (dollars):
Move Controller - 49.99
Navigation Controller - 29.99

Bundle including Sports Champions, PS Eye and Move - 99.99.

Throw a PS3 in on the deal - 399.99.

Move coming to EU Sept 15, US 19, Japan 25.

Now we've 'moved' onto PSP. Still no sign of a "2" on the end of that.

Onto PlayStation Home and trying to say that it's good.

A full replica of the Sony E3 booth in Home is a nice touch though.

Tretton has such a monotone voice. But, with a name like Jack Tretton, you just can't fault him.

Jack Tretton should become a Private Eye.

Onto LittleBigPlanet 2 with Media Molecule's Alex Evans.

Evans taking us through some of the different mini-games that have actually been created using LBP2. Everything from top down dodge 'ems to Smash Bros' still side-scrolling fighter.

PlayStation Plus announced. That's the paid upgrade to PSN.

49.99 for a year, 17.99 for 3 month, 3 months free trial for a limited time. Who thinks they're in?

Here comes EA.

Medal of Honor will feature unlockable beards! Finally! Your voices have been heard.

Actually this dev has a very well groomed beard. In real life I mean. Probably in-game as well.

Medal of Honor Front line to be included in the new Medal of Honor for free. Nice.

Steve Papoutsis presents the rest of Dead Space 2, following on from EA's main conference yesterday.

Steve Papoutsis has a funny name. I prefer Jack Tretton, but Papoutsis is good.

Still amazed by Dead Space 2 lighting and atmosphere.

Ooo here comes a surprise, wonder what...It's Portal 2!

Gabe Newell takes the the stage. Cracks a few jokes.

Newell reveals Portal 2 and Steam support for PS3.

Newell says Portal 2 on PS£ will be best on any console.

Here comes Gran Turismo 5. Will we get a release date though? We'd better get a release date.

November 2 2010! Finally. GT5 will launch in the US on November 2 2010. EU date will follow soon I'm sure.

Infamous 2 now. With the new look Cole. Except, it's not just a new look. He looks like a totally different person! How are they going to write around that one?

One last surprise then.

This has to be Twisted Metal.

Yep. David Jaffe is here.

Even though that fat topless guy in the van looks very Twisted Metal. He's still basically a fat topless guy in a van.

That's all folks. And that's from all platform holders. Who do you think won?

I dunno about a PSP2, a long shot if you ask me. Thought they were more focused on 3D and move this year.

im hoping for a new medieval game Very Happy

I kinda feel sorry for Sony going last. 2005 saw Nintendo showing that you could play tennis et al by waving your hand around, then yesterday Microsoft showed that you could play tennis et al by waving your hand around, and now tonight Sony are going to get up and show you that you can play tennis et al by...waving your hand around.

It doesn't matter if they knock it out of the park because the fact they are third up just means their Move sports will feel too familiar after Wii sports and Kinect Sports. hopefully the family games will be minimal and they will focus on move in hardcore games to differentiate

and while I'm here, its really f**king annoying when you are trying to type a comment and a flash ad pops up half way through, sort it out CVG
alexkidd on 15 Jun '10
You just know Sony are going to be showing us the move games mainly, gonna blow just like MS did.
Scarlet_Pimp on 15 Jun '10
I think Sony is going to deliver and I don't even mind if they spend time demonstrating MOVE because i Know they are going to have the software for us Core gamers.
They won't have a hard time topping MS, neither will Nintendo for that matter.
sammikid on 15 Jun '10
My money is on a new ps3 sku and not a psp2, too bad.

saving the best till last...

at least sonys motion crap has realistic graphics - a different angle from MS's shameless rip-off of the wii-style cartoon graphics... maybe thats all the processing power they have left after natal sucking up all the juice.
svd_grasshopper on 15 Jun '10
A well placed sauce in the E3 expo canteen tells me this:

PS3 Slim will receive a price cut.

You heard it here first.
sweatyBallacks on 15 Jun '10
So far it's been OK. Too much emphasis on 3D so far, who gives a s**t?

Also I hate their contant digs at Microsoft and nintendo. Stop being so arrogant and show us the games.

Killzone looked great.
Glowing-Yo-Yo on 15 Jun '10
Pathetic so far.
DaRockwilder1 on 15 Jun '10
Can any of those Move games not be done on Wii? Even the promos look similar.

The PSP stuff was gash too... Our big new thing is some kid doing adverts? Games that are already out?

And why announce an advertising campaign with Coke like its a launch for a new title... and people cheered that!?!

Still better than Microsofts so far though...
sevvy b goode on 15 Jun '10
Complete and utter s**te so far!
Tonyb on 15 Jun '10
Nothing so far of great interest.

Nintendo easily win E3 this year.
Glowing-Yo-Yo on 15 Jun '10
LBP2 is the best thing out of all 3 presentations so far. Everything else including Zelda which I love hasn't really impressed me.

Scrap that last comment Dead space 2 just made me cum a tiny bit.

Bit of a Megaton right there, no doubt. Welcome PS3 owners to the Wonderful World of Valve.

*I wonder if they might be a bit nicer to Gabe now?*

That was incredibly boring. Sony just presented the worst of all the conferences.
bazzatuk on 15 Jun '10
Got better in the end but it was a bad idea finishing with that crap Twisted Metal.
DaRockwilder1 on 15 Jun '10
Fairplay i wasn't expecting gabe nowall to appear, but glad to hear about portal 2!

Was a pretty good conference in all aswell, expected alittle better but i guess Move was always gona be the forfront of the sonys conference like kinectic was for xbox's!

Im gona go for November 5th for GT5 uk release seeming as its a friday and 2-3 days after the bloody americans like most games!
bunneyo on 15 Jun '10
Being a huge fan of Playstation ( Fan not fanboy ) I can easily say Sony demolished the competition tonight, stuff like Killzone 3 with jetpacks, Socom 4, Sly Cooper collection, PORTAL 2, free MOH frontline with MOH PS3, GT5 November release, Infamous 2 and Playstation icon Twisted Metal returns home, its gonna be a good year for PS3 Laughing
thedriffter50 on 15 Jun '10

Yep, that was a complete and utter borefest, ffs, it made Microsoft's look positively engaging!

When Valve reveal that they are developing for your console is one of the highlights, you know you're in trouble!!
Tonyb on 15 Jun '10
was that it? no agent Crying or Very sad no uncharted 3 Crying or Very sad no new titles except twisted metal announces plus the wii rip offs and the price of move is shocking, so 4 player is going to cost me a extra 240 quid? thankyou $ony

agreed sony owned this E3
Miss_Wacy on 15 Jun '10
That was probably even worse than the microsoft disaster. Nintendo must be laughing their gold laden asses off at that. A big phew!, from microsoft.
TheMullet3 on 15 Jun '10
Thought CVG's pre write up sounded a bit... dull. And the actual conference was worse. No Last Guardian? No Agent? The 2 games I was even semi interested in.
It wasn't as plain embarrasing as MS's but if you take away all the Kinetic/Move rubbish I prefered MS's line up of 'core' games... even if they were all sequels.

This has been a rather tame E3 in my opinion.
MrPirtniw on 15 Jun '10
I'd say Sony has edged this years E3 over MS through the sheer amount of PS3 content. I feel Nintendo delivered the best games/hardware though.

Overall, as a 360/PS3 owner, I'm pretty disappointed with this years E3. Where was Agent and The Last Guardian? Those 2 games are by far the most interesting PS3 games for me and I'd have loved to have seen them make an appearance.

Great price for Move though, I'll definitely pick one up with a copy of Dead Space 2 CE.
Black Mantis on 15 Jun '10
Sony owned this years E3, bigger games, bigger announcements and a far bigger stage Wink.
GT5 finally has a "Concrete" release date, we saw more Killzone 3, Medal of Honor: Limited Edition Wink, more impressive stuff from Move and even Playstation+ which sounds pretty good, what more can you ask for.
Finishing on Twisted metal was a very nice touch, a new addition has been long overdue and is very much welcome.
I was very surprised we didn't see any Last Guardian or Resistance 3 info though?
JammyJames on 15 Jun '10
Seriously if you think the Microsoft conference was better than Sony's then you are a casual gamer and shouldn't be on a gaming website or are looking at it with a seriously subjective viewpoint.

Ninty probably came out on top, just with the 3DS reveal, but I think Sony put up a relatively good show. As an Xbox gamer I'm slightly worried at Natal mostly cos of lack of buttons. for example Joyride. How was that bird accelerating or is it auto accelerate.. i hope not.
chunkyboymania on 15 Jun '10
The games all looked great, I'm really looking forward to MOH and LBP2 now, but I still think nintendo beat sony this year. The 3ds (and loads of great looking games for it), goldeneye, zelda. And how boring were the sony presenters. So monotone and dull. No PSP2 was a huge suprise. I cant remember when I last played on my psp.
jubbgi01 on 15 Jun '10
I think Sony obviously have the PSP2 hardware nailed down but want to get the most out of the PSP lifespan and check the 3DS out first. Possibly they didn't reveal it cos it doesn't live up to the 3DS spec which seems ultra impressive for a Nintendo handheld.
chunkyboymania on 15 Jun '10

Tonyb on 15 Jun '10
I would have went with Nintendo for best show this year.

I dont understand why Sony announced KZ3, Infamous 2 and LBP2 before E3, if those were all announced tonight then Sony would have 'Won' E3, of that there can be no doubt. I suppose the same could be said for Gears being revelaed a few months back as well.

As it is, welcome back Nintendo, weve missed you.

All in, when you consider all the Hype we have listened to over the last few week, E3 was a bit of a let down in general. Still theres always next year.
StonecoldMC on 15 Jun '10
i was dissapointed in sony this year, i was expecting to be blown away but all i got was a slight gust, awell i was like wtf thru that psp bit i was like omg nintendo just owned sony, sorcery was a let down and i thought it was lagging a bit but mabye that was the big screens fault just like nintendos, but what scares me is the price as to play multiplayer you would need to make 4 seperate purchases and that wud suck, so overall nintendo won this year in my opinion, when is the 3ds out tho Crying or Very sad
dorian2011 on 15 Jun '10

Agreed Stonecold, but all the SDF trying to "big up" the Sony showing is pathetic!

Celebrate good times c'mon!! dananana na na na na nana c'mon!! Its a celebration!!!

Sony won hands down in my opinion. They absolutely crushed the competition. I'm on cloud 9 right now. Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy

Why is everyone falling all over themselves because of a DS. "Well it has 3D har har har" ya on a 3.5 inch screen. I'd rather watch 3D on my 48 inch tv thank you very much.

Plus the Zelda demo was exactly the reason why I sold my Wii. Its very unresponsive, inaccurate, and rarely does what you want it to. The move was leaps & bounds over the Wii and Kinect that showed a level of precision and in-depth gameplay never seen from any motion-games before.

Sony had a stacked line-up of AAA titles that were unrivaled by the competitors, and had the most entertaining press conference of them all. This year was amazing and Sony dominated.
Focker420 on 15 Jun '10
Lets face it both Move and Kinect failed to impress in fact both MS and Sony failed in my own opinion!
And why is move so expensive it's gonna cost a small fortune just to play multiplayer!!

Oh and as always the sony defence force is out in strength i see and as is the norm these days they all seem blind to the s**te that was sonys E3 conference, Do you lot ever get bored of constantly defending them i know i would Rolling Eyes
dangermou5e on 15 Jun '10
f**k 3D when are we going to get fully immersive VR porn suits Sony?
cybersensual on 15 Jun '10
Well, from what was shown at the show...

Halo Reach
Gears 3
Fable 3

versus

Killzone 3
GT5
Infamous 2
Twisted Metal 3
Final Fantasy XIV

Surely only one winner out of those two no?!?
sweatyBallacks on 15 Jun '10
Sounds pretty bad tbh. No Last Guardian and no Agent?

Don't joke, Nintendo swept this one!
gothchild on 15 Jun '10
stupid sony fanboy are you starsail? leaving games out on purpose

Halo Reach
Gears 3
Fable 3
Kingdoms
Crackdown 2
Mass effect 3 (soon)

versus

Killzone 3
GT5
Infamous 2
Twisted Metal 3
Final Fantasy XIV (multiplatform)

both were good but sony fanboys have to admit it wasnt as good as there hype was
dorian2011 on 15 Jun '10

Agreed x 2

Albeit Sony's line up was streets ahead of XBox it was all a bit tame, playing it safe, a bit meh

Having said that, were I to get a motion controller it would be Move

In truth, I am ambivalent towards Move & outright 'No Way!' to Kinect

3D Gaming does look like the ticket but I cannot help thinking 1st gen 3D will not be close to the finished article. Sounds obvious but I am sure glasses will be obsolete within 5 years, I am sceptical about investing
Taus on 15 Jun '10
Nothing of interest for me, and barely any better than MS.

Move, GT5, Killzone and 3D No thanks

Gabe, just do one you fat Barsteward, not interested.

I want Agent details, Unchaterd 3, Last Guardian and something equally exciting.
Barca Azul on 15 Jun '10
agreed barca azul, The SDF are acting like its the best conference ever tho, NINTENDO STOLE THE SHOW the 3ds sounds almost too good 2 be true
dorian2011 on 15 Jun '10
I'd say Ninty took the prize too- and I'm not really a Nintendo-y kind of guy. The best thing Sony showed was LBP 2 - which looks flippin' brilliant but everything else was forgettable.

Maybe I should've bought a Wii instead of a PS3? Confused

Still, as uninspiring as the 360 games were- at least I know they'll be good. I agree with whoever said 'they're playing it safe'- but seeing as I'm a fan of the games they've shown already I'm quite happy. Killzone and GT don't bother me in the slightest but I'm sure they'll do fine.

Oh, and I'm really excited for space combat in Reach. I can't type words that can even begin to express that.
MrPirtniw on 16 Jun '10
does anyone know what format the games will be on for the 3ds? surely it cant be one of those lil carts, im hoping mini disc like gamecube
dorian2011 on 16 Jun '10
Must admit pretty underwhelmed by all 3 showings personally. Maybe I am just getting too old and jaded Wink

dorian2011 on 16 Jun '10
and nintendo stole the show, the 3DS has probally the best line up possible on a release console and has basically stuck the nail in the psp coffin, there psp section sounded a bit desperate tbh and a lot of people all around the net were saying the same thing.

and hardcore games? star wars will own sorcery
and there was a sports rip off with kinect sports look better and that fighting game will be so unrealistic, take it from a muai thai fighter when i say that the kinnect martial arts game will be awesome better than that figthing game which will be s**t as why wud anyone fight with a dildo-pop in there hands, plus the 60 dollar price for one controller lmao that kills multiplayer because who in there right mind would pay 240 quid for wanting to play 4 player when you could play 4 player for only 1 purchase so sony have put me off of thos and i will not be buying it and dont even get me started on the joke that is playstaion plus
dorian2011 on 16 Jun '10
K you can have your opinions on most of those, except. LBP2 is not like Mario Party. AT ALL!!!! You're a complete retard if you think that. Do you know what LBP even is?? Obviously not. STFU you have absolutely no f*cking clue what you're talking about. Yes you got under my skin, good job. You're a total f*cking idiot if you believe LBP is like Mario Party.

On a side note it was obvious to anyone watching the conference that Sorcery was not pre-recorded w/ an actor. It was clearly a live demo and anyone with half a brain knows that. First you say its pre-recorded then you say it has lag, which one is it??

You could say Nintendo dominated the handhelds, and Sony dominated the consoles. Thats how I see it. I hate handhelds anyway so it was an awesome day for me. Sony killed it and my year is stacked.
Focker420 on 16 Jun '10
Get a room you two. Razz
lonewolf2002 on 16 Jun '10
i only said that because you said that dance centra had actors when it was real, and ive never played lil big planet but those mini games reminded me of mario party lmao
dorian2011 on 16 Jun '10
Well yes that (probably) was the only game without actors. Mainly because the entire game is pre-canned animations, it doesn't actually mimic your motions on screen. It just scores you based on how well you copied the screen. Not the sames as the other games.

LBP is what started play. create. share. You use it to literally build you're own video games, and then post them online for everyone to play. Whatever your imagination desires you can create. All from scratch. Every one of the mini-games you saw at E3 were created using the same exact tools available for everyone.

It doesn't just stop at mini games though, you can create full video game levels, with as much depth and creativity as you can imagine. Where you can share them with the world and play everyone elses levels. Theres a reason there are more than 2 million user created levels, and alot of them are astonishing. Oh and you can play 4 player online co-op to play any levels together and/or build levels together. LBP is a game that redefines how you think about video games, and is why it got so many GOTY awards.

well the fitness game wasnt actors either, im also looking forward to some of the sports games, i hope they do a fight night because that will be insanely good,

lbp isnt my type of game anyway so thats why it didnt impress me, but twisted metal is one of my most wanted games now. and im not impressed with playstation plus at all i think its a very devious thing by sony but excellent marketing because they are making people think they are getting 200 quid worth of free stuff lol this weeks deal of the week must save everyone at least 120 quid on xbox live and thats just this week lol this is why sony are smart and once i get my business diploma i hope to work for them because there marketing teams are one of the best in the world

Actuall the fitness game was 100% actor. The two demos from the MS and Ubisoft conferences were the EXACT same video.
