Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Ray Maguire has responded to Microsoft man, Aaron Greenberg's comments regarding Halo 3's sales dominance over PS3 exclusives.
According to Greenberg's flame bait, Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III combined in the US.
Asked what he thought of Greenberg's comments and how he feels PS3 exclusives are performing, Maguire told Edge:
"Well I'm really happy with them because as I said, we're selling more than we ever have done before. Secondly, I'm not too fussed about the competitive bits or people's comments because at the end of the day I've only got my focus, and that is giving consumers a great experience and great content and I don't care what anybody else does.
"If we are doing that and if we are measured by the enjoyment and the engagement that we have with our consumers and we can have a successful business then that's what it will be. Our DNA is about innovation and giving people technology that they didn't even realise they needed at the time and about pushing the envelope."
On the new technology front, Maguire also said he thinks Microsoft will need to embrace 3D.
"I would say that they have to. Whether they can is a different matter, but of course everyone will have to get into 3D because it's the natural way of viewing the world. So why would you stay in a 2D world if you have the ability to do 3D? We have the ability to do 3D right now with the devices consumers already have in their living rooms."
Microsoft's Xbox 360 3D plans are expected to be announced soon.
We also spoke to Maguire today to get the full story on 3D's potential in the home - and where it's headed on PS3.
FFS will people stop rambling on about 3D. It's sh*t. I hate this poxy "3D is the bees knees" attitude going around. It's not. It's pants. It's always been pants. I blame James Cameron and that god awful AVATAR movie, which is just the pocahontus storyline with giant smurfs. You will pay Cameron!!!! Mark my words.....

*grabs hatchet and heads for airport*
Isn't he working on a new Aliens film? Can you kill him after that's released, please?
As for the Microsoft comments yesterday aka me aiming at StoneColdMC I do apoligise for my lil drink fueled episode lol
Back to Xbox on 3D, i think if Microsoft dump this like Blu ray.... well were soin it now in games like Lost Planet 2.Dont believe me... well dont judge 3D till ye have experienced it
How about being the first developer to put cd, dvd and blu-ray drives in their console? or how about this whole new 3d thing which to be fair i am not really impressed with at all i'd rather just have better games but yeah sony pretty much set the bar for video game hardware innovation you tool.

You're right about DVD and Blu-Ray, but the Amiga CD32 was the first CD console, followed by the 3DO I believe.
"We have the ability to do 3D right now with the devices consumers already have in their living rooms" - er, no, you need a new 3D-enabled TV, and a 3D Blu-ray-compatible player, and ...
I've used a 3D LCD-shutter glasses DVD system on my old widescreen CRT television, and some of the effects, particularly out-of-the-screen, were amazing. However, after an hour or so wearing the glasses became fatiguing - not because of the weight (they were very light), but because of the eye strain that LCD-shutters induce. I know some 3D TV's use lenticular lenses (which aren't as good), but still...
I reckon 3D TV is going to take a-g-e-s to become popular, if ever. Expecting people to wear glasses (as well as possibly having to buy them separately) will be the sticking point, I believe, for a long time to come ...
3DTV, it's like every other technology released it will be expensive at first and slowly come down in price. Like HDTV, who would of thought 4 years ago you could pick up a 40" 1080p for under £400. Same goes for 3DTV, give it 3-4 for year and Argos will be giving them away, almost!
i don't think anyone cares, what happened to gamers who just played games and didn't care if one game was on another console, what greenburg said is exactly what CVG said flamebait
Hahahaha. Please name a single innovation that Sony have come up with in the videogame industry.
Actually I have to agree that Sony does bring quite a bit of innovation to the video games industry. They arguably created casual games with titles like buzz and singstar and as for motion gaming, out of todays 3 leading video games companies they came first with their eye toy( for those who clame sony copied the way with the PS Move just taken in to account how much of a carbon copy the Natal is of The Eye Toy0, and now they are the first to bring out 3D gaming. So Sony do certainly innovate their problem however is how they were bet at their own game i.e. while sony's casual gaming floped Ninty's Wii has become a great commercial success.
Seriosly people are questioning Sony as being an innovative company?! How about that they were behind making the games industry more mainstream, the Eyetoy which was very innovative and was the first of this new motion control push, and if you just look at the exclusive games they are behind or back; Littlebigplanet and Heavy Rain were left field and very much a risk. Even the Uncharted franchise doesn't scream huge success on first glance; coming out the same year as Halo 3 the first Uncharted was far from a surefire hit

Plus remote play, play tv, home even if it is utter s**te, rumble, six axis, im sure there are more too.

You're talking about innovation and how MS are copying Sony with Natal etc....
What you are conveniently side-stepping is that Sony are copying most of this themselves from PC....it's hardly innovation just because it is on a new platform. 3D gaming has been going for years, six-axis was done 10 years ago, Head-tracking (TrackIR) and movement trackers have been established for years too. Remote Play, HOME lol all have PC equivalents from eons ago......it's hardly innovation.
Ridley Scott is directing an Alien prequel telling the mysterious story of the dead Space Jockey??!?!
That's news to me and bigger news than the World Cup
Aye! I s**t my pants when I read about it a little while ago.
I have an RSS feed from Scyfiwire at work to keep me updated an all this. This goes hand-in-hand with Predators for me. I am rather excited
Predators looks decent considering how s**te the versus spin-offs were.
But if Ridley is taking charge of this prequel, it could be a lot better than the new Predator.
Alien remains the best sci-fi horror film of all time imo
Now all we need is Terminator versus RoboCod directed by Cameron and we can all sleep easy
Especially AvP:Requiem for sheer s**tness. That was outstandingly bad. I tried to like it, I really did but the film makers though if you made everything dark it would be scarier.... it was so dark I couldn't see anything!
Predators does look promising. I think mostly as it was written and produced by Mr Rodriguez. I am a big fan of his since El Mariachi and Desperado.
I am actually surprised Scott has gone back to the Alien franchise, albeit pleasantly. His Alien is iconic. Frighteneining and extremely interesting at the same time.
Soz didn't read everyones post, but what's the big whoop about 3D?
In all honesty I'm not too fussed, I can only watch films with those funky specs for about 1.5 hrs before I get a killer head ache, so games better stay clear of that method of 3D or bye bye 36 hour sessions
I want to see more personalization and interaction / character development via Natal / Move voice recongnition etc! That to me is 100 times more important thn 3D.
Why has the GFX and visuals become the be all and end all of a game??? Immersion and gameplay FTW!
Whatever, it was dances with wolves or even pocahontas with blue people. I've seen people say it was the best movie in 30 years and while you may enjoy it that much and it is your opinion you are still wrong.
Hey Paradaz what I've learned here is that when smthg is done for the first time on a console (doesn't matter if it really is old tech) it is considered an innovation for some reason, it kind of confuses me.
+for the record Aliens was a total bitch slap to the franchise, if Scott really is doing a new alien movie then that's sweet news as the 1st is still by far the best.
