CVG reported earlier that Microsoft will ditched the name 'Project Natal' when it announces to final retail name for its motion-sensing peripheral at E3 next month. That name, according to new rumours, will be 'Wave'.
So says a "source close to Microsoft", following yesterday's report and a slew of rumours surrounding the device over the past few days.
CVG was told that MS finally settled on a brand name in April, following a six-month consultation period.
Edge has reported that the peripheral is set to cost $149 in the US at launch - and that Microsoft has pencilled in a launch date of October 26.
Microsoft has a special presentation dedicated entirely to Natal kicking off at 7pm pacific time (3am GMT) on Sunday June 13. That's when it's all going down.
I can't see it to be honest, I would say the rumour is wrong like it was with Playstation 'Arc' a few months back.
I can't think of a good name for it, although if Sony had not of used Move already, that would be good. It suits the idea behind Natal much more then the glowing dildo.
Integration means Pack in with every Unit sold Not in the Console you ditzy brits but the camera peripheral being something you unpack along with your console, so you penetrate the broadest market. Your more likely to support hardware that comes packed in.
Most ppl who have the Natal unit in the box when they buy their 360 will set it up, just to set it up. PPL like us however will not run out and Buy Natal until it supports a game we want. So why would a developer make a game that only 10% would buy.
This is a HUGE fail. Add-ons typically fail! Now when they release Xbox 720 or whatever and Natal comes in the box with the the unit, then you have nearly 100% market penetration…and ppl who got the unit with their system are more likely to buy more games for it, then ppl who have to adopt the Natal and then buy games.
Simply put Natal should wait and just be a pack in with Xbox 720. Can you imagine the mess if Nintendo release the Waggle controller for the Game Cube. They were smart they disguised a new console that was basically a Game Cube 1.5 but the real reason was to get 100% Market penetration with the Wiimote…Ingenious really!!
Glad to hear that "Natal" was only a project tag as I never took to it and "Wave" does bring to mind an air of freedom of movement and fluidity.
Having said that, if the name of a console or peripheral really was that paramount then the Wii would only have sold a few dozen and mainly to colostrophy bag owners!
I dont love the name Wave, i hope they keep Natal. I think Natal will be a sucess, if they keep the price under £100 and get rid of the lag. Imagine walking into the room, your xbox recognises you, turns on and logs you into live. Flying through the dashboard with just hand movements. I think it would be so cool. Also, when they release Leisure Suit Larry Natal version...........
Microsoft already use the "Wave" name to cover it's development of all new technology, including Natal.

Aye, I mentioned the same thing over at Sixth Axis. Not only is the Wave name used by other technologu companies already (e.g. Google), but Microsoft themselves are already using it for a different purpose. Because of that, I imagine it's unlikely that Wave will be the final name for Natal.
