Prince Of Persia creator Jordan Mechner has responded to worries over the 'addictiveness' of games - telling CVG that only the best titles get players hooked.
Mechner - who also created PoP: Sands Of Time and The Last Express, amongst others - penned the script for the new Prince Of Persia movie, which hit UK cinemas last weekend.
When Mechner was asked why games seemed more "addictive" than cinema, he replied:
"They're games, aren't they? I think any good game has the potential to be addictive - so long as it's good. This isn't new or unique to video games.
"I mean, look at chess - many a brilliant mind has been caught in the addiction of chess, going back thousands of years. A good game has that potential.
"It's the challenge of learning new skills and also the social aspect - you're also playing with your friends and competitors. It can become a whole world in itself."
Back in the Sinclair Spectrum games you would get reviews of games which would state the games were highly addictive... all because they were great games. Addictive in a good way. People need to realise that the word addictive is not necessarilly a bad thing.
These days I noticed people play bad games because they have easy achievments or trophies. Last few days I've been playing alot of MW2 online although I hate the it. Can't get a single game with out at least 2-3 people camping around with heartbeat sensors mostly high levels too. Kinda ruins the game. I gained 15 levels in 3 days so I can't be all that bad (with out lame tricks) Oh and yeah boosters are all over the place too either using tactical insertion or riot shields. Drives me nuts but a well placed grenade between them ruins their "fun". Welcome to add me and have a few games and see how bad I am
Don't you worry about us, for all I know, I love my 360 and I won't trade my 360, even if it's on the verge of getting a red ring for your PS3. I been a bigger PS2 fan and I hated XBOX, but PS3 failed me and my friends as in terms of games. Seriously, what's a good title on it except MGS and Uncharted 2? Killzone? Not even close to our XBOX exclusives.
