LittleBigPlanet 2 gameplay details in

Make entire games with sequel, mag reveals
The first details (and acknowledgement that it exists, really) on LittleBigPlanet 2 have arrived, via Game Informer mag in the states.

Basically, where the first LBP had you building Mario-esque platform levels, the sequel will allow players to make entire games; shooters, racers, puzzle games, Space Invaders clones - even RPGs. One Media Molecule developer had even built a fully working Command & Conquer clone.

The most important addition to LBP2's all-new level creator - which you can even use to customise the game's HUD - are the "direct control seats". These can be attached to objects to customise the controls of the game, creating the feel of an entirely new game.

For example, Media Molecule says you can attach a control seat to a makeshift car, set SixAxis tilt for forward and reverse, and assign the horn to the X button. You can even put a direct control seat on Sackboy himself to completely customise the feel and controls of your protagonist - it's possible to recreate the exact jump from Yoshi's Island on Super Nintendo, says the developer.

LBP2 also makes advancements in how you put enemies into your levels, with the addition of Sackbots. Sackbots have various enemy style templates that can be tweaked and dressed however you want.

And that's not all; there are movie editing options for cut-scenes, you can record your own sound effects, string levels together to create an entire game and transfer all of your download content from the original game.

This is serious stuff. We'll bring you more details as they arrive.

This sounds amazing. Cant wait for all the shooters.
RustySpoon80 on 8 May '10
still making levels and playing LBP, fantastic game. but this sounds better. only sad thing is that, theres 1000s of amazing levels on LBP that i will never get to play after LBP2 comes out... Confused

still i think its best, this will b even better than LBP.. cant wait to get into some home made worlds instead of 5min levels.
User75 on 8 May '10
I was awaiting the announcement of Mario 64 style levels but they've only gone and outdone themselves if this is true.

Hopefully you'll still be able to play all the LBP levels already created with the sequel.

I can't wait!! LBP is one of my favorite games of all time. I love letting creativity flow, and especially in a video game.

I don't know why you guys have issues with moderators. So they delete your level off of your hard drive?? How? Your level will only get to the front page if people frequently play it. Otherwise it slowly gets pushed back further and further. Just re-publish it a few times and you're set.

Plus my friends and I play test each other's levels a couple of times just to make sure there are no issues. My favorite level I made was a boss fight against a massive trojan warrior. Its quite difficult, and the crowd throws deadly bottles and turkey legs at you while you're trying to fight him. It was by far my most difficult level to create, but in the end I really love how it turned out. The trojan himself was definitely the hardest part. It took me days to get him just right. He kept ripping one of his arms off. Laughing

LBP2 sounds like its gonna blow the original away, and I just can't wait.

I hope that MM have set their sights this high for a new LBP game because if this is true (and I suspect that it is) LBP2 is going to be amazing.

But But...

In LBP1 I spent literally days fine tuning my levels just to then hear random obnoxious opinions that they were completley sh!t.

Well the Sayin' goes:

"Opinions are like a**holes, everyone's got one!"

This is sounding great! The first LBP looked fanastic: it was one of the reasons I bought a PS3- but when I actually played it it wasn't quite as fun as I was hoping but pretty good all the same. Hopefully this sequel will change that.

I hope they can build in a more complex character creation tool of some sort- it'd be a bit rubbish playing a LBP rpg only to have to fight the same monsters (Sackbots) with the same characters all the time.

Keeping my eye on this!
MrPirtniw on 8 May '10
This actually sounds totally awesome. I was so skeptical about the first one, but finally bought it used after about a year. I love it. I wondered what they could even do if they made a sequel, and now I know.
KippDynamite on 8 May '10
Looking forward to a game called "space invaders d*ck on you." Where instead of the normal format a series of different d*cks fly down onto your d*ck as you use, and shoot through, d*cks that are there for cover. At the end the game scores you with d*ck tokens used to put those d*cks in your own d*ck infested levels

If the dev could create a Command & Conquer clone, it seems the tools are some pretty serious stuff
sweatyBallacks on 8 May '10
That ticks off just about everything on my wish-list, though I must propose the following question: will allowing people to do so much more stifle creativity? Some people created levels of true ingenuity, such as the side-scrolling shooter one (credit to whoever did it first, I believe it was a Japanese fella, though I may be wrong).

I have to admit, I lost patience with the occasionally buggy nature of the first game's level builder, and some of the cruel single-player levels annoyed me enough to give up, and I've been distracted by other games since.

So, MM, can you really get the attention of people like me once again? Their promise will certainly take a LOT to live up to.
AJDarkstar on 9 May '10
Love the first LBP (That and Uncharted are the only reasons I ever wipe the dust off of my PS3).

My next PS3 game, I can't wait for this!

Roll on E3. Very Happy

Shouldn't you be on acid right now?? Idiot, go crawl back in your hole.
Focker420 on 9 May '10
My worry is that it's going to take away from what made LBP so brilliant - simplicity and physics-based object platforming.

I'll be keeping my eyes open though, because it could be awesome.
