The great irony? In making the comment, its chief football writer, Matt Lawson, was trying to pay an off-hand compliment to the title's accuracy.
Even the computer geeks who are developing the latest edition of the official FIFA World Cup 2010 video game do not appear to be giving England much of a chance in South Africa this summer, he wrote in today's paper.
Having factored in the high altitude conditions at certain venues, 'gamers' will discover that both Fabio Capello's side and the Dutch start to run out of puff sooner than their opponents.
Nope, we don't know why he wrote 'gamers' in inverted commas. That usually represents a group who have been dubbed something that The Mail considers short-lived and snigger-worthy.
You know the sort of thing... 'Yummy mummies' 'Tweeters', 'reactionary, embarrassingly out-of-touch fools'...
I saw this last night on the dailymail website (which I read for sh*ts and giggles), and I too thought it was quite humerus that they referred to the development team as geeks!
Clearly from the fact that they're making games they must all geeks! The author must be a nerdy jock! Oh wait that's one the signs of the apocalypse!!! Run to the hills!
1. This a rubbish "story" 2. I wouldn't wipe my bottom with the paper that the Daily Mail has been printed on 3. Anyone who reads the Daily Mail is a racist and believes the country is about to self destruct 4. The sport section in the Daily Mail is crap - try reading The Sun
So if programmers and gamers are 'geeks' because they are fans of a certain passtime. Why do we not hear football fans being called 'Football Geeks'? Football fans are the worst fanboys of the lot!
Considering CVG's own news agenda - basically publishing any old crap that will stir fanboy chatter in the comments, often with deliberately misleading headlines - maybe you should get off your high horse Tim.
Yeah you did well on that Titchmarsh show, but that doesn't suddenly make CVG the guardian of gaming's reputation in the media. Especially if you're going to run this kind of crap.

I must admit to being a little partial to the Daily Mails comments section - it's just ridiculous how stupid and self righteous some people are. Car crash stuff.
I'm not actually allowed to post a comment there though. Not since I tried to post on a story about a female sprinter that was found to be a hermaphrodite - all I wanted to say was 'I still definitely would'....but, apparently that's just not acceptable.

I couldn't give a flying f**k about football. Does that make me a jock?

Have you not seen pictures?! That is most definitely not acceptable

It's not the first time that they refused to post my comment. I remember another time when they had some story about something or other that caused much outrage amongst the Mail readers. I think I tried to post something like 'Well, I blame Gordon Brown, homosexuals, immigrants and Kerry Katona for all of this' - again, apparently not acceptable.

Well I would agree that it is unacceptable. I wouldn't necessarily blame GB...
They should stop beating around the bush and just refer to us as 'the enemy' from now on. I hope they don't come on this site, if they saw my avatar it'd make front page news.
Once again the Daily Mail is 10 years behind the news. If they kept a foot in the future and not the past then they might have also discovered that Premier league managers were using Championship Manager to look for up and coming talent.
Not sure what that has to do with Fifa being accurate, but Football games have been getting more and more realistic for a good few years now. But the Mail would only print something negative anyways, cause the people who run that paper are so f**king backwards it hurts, and yet at the same time they are afraid that the younger generation, because its the younger generation that change they way the world works. b******s to this.
