Respawn will lower CoD's sales - Pachter

Increased competition will damage Activision series, says analyst
Ex-Infinity Ward bosses, West and Zampella's new EA-backed studio, Respawn will lower sales of Activision's future Call of Duty games.

That's according to gaming's own Nostradamus, analyst Michael Pachter, who predicts that increased competition from Respawn will damage CoD's future numbers.

"I think that it is likely that future games will sell fewer units than in the past, primarily due to increased competition from Respawn, DICE and EA games that will likely be in the same or similar genres," he said.

Yesterday Activision admitted that more Infinity Ward employees will "probably" leave the studio - and may even join the other bailout designers at West and Zampella's studio.

At least seven ex-Infinity Ward employees are said to have joined the EA-backed studio.

I think its also because alot of COD fans are p**sed atr Activision so would welcome the new competition from Respawn and other EA games like Medal of Honour and Battlefield

Yes but the majority of people who play MW2 know sh1t abt the industry and respond only to the COD name. They will most likely be baited into the next modern era release and then find out how crap it is then finally limp out.
I want to say I hope Activision just burns alive but Blizzard is a part of them and they are still the old blizzard, doing whatever the hell they want when they want.

I predict Pachter won't be able to shut up for 1 week, just 1 week.

I'll even bet on it. Now, where's my monies?

Unlike industry analyst Michael Patcher who knows it all.

I'm glad that I play MW2 but I'm not one of the majority and neither are my friends who play it, we welcome the new medal of honour and await to see what Respawn comes up with. CoD is starting to look like a fish out of water.

I hope this will turn out to be true.
What a horrible way to handle your employees, Activision.

Not for 2 years at least! Maybe not even this gen!

Treyarch has made a couple of pretty good games, and I think they should dissolve the studio and leave Activision. Not only to back up Infinity Ward and to strike a blow a Activision (the new sith lord in town), but also to no no longer be recognised as a Team B next to Infinity Ward. They're a good studio. They should try their hands on a new IP, not cheap licenses they're handed from east and west.

Go Treyarch, dissolve and be free!

I have to agree their are a large number of people that will not even know or care about who makes the next call of duty they buy this November. If its not set in the modern times it will sell less as has been proven before.

The real test will come in 2011/2 or whenever the first respawn game is released.

I disagree.

The people who will damage the sales of COD, are the people who make it, and publish it. A poorly built Multiplayer, and overpriced DLC have generated alot of negative press for the franchise in the past six months. That being said, MW2 is still the most played game of the moment; but no doubt Treyarch will release a shocker this Fall (I mean, its always a carbon copy of the IW release, and this time its confirmed to be a 'smaller project'), hardly convincing me to purchase it, at any rate. However, no doubt millions will buy, and hopefully they'll be disappointed, I just can't see it standing up to the likes of Halo:Reach this fall. This is the first time Treyarch have come head-to-head with a Halo release, and if IW can't manage it - sure as hell they won't either.
