Ex-Infinity Ward employees join Respawn

Seven ex-Modern Warfare developers defect to West/Zampella EA studio
Seven ex-Infinity Ward employees have defected to Jason West and Vince Zampella's EA-backed studio, Respawn.

Former lead designer Mackey McCandlish, Programmer Jon Shiring, software engineer Rayme C. Vinson, lead animator Mark Grisby, lead environmental artist Chris Cherubini, lead animator John Paul Messerly and lead designer Todd Alderman have all joined the new studio, reports G4TV.

At least three more senior Modern Warfare developers are known to have left Activision, and could also join their seven former colleagues at the studio.

Yesterday Activision admitted that more Infinity Ward employees will "probably" leave the studio - and may even join the other bailout designers at West and Zampella's studio.

In its first official release, Respawn said it will focus on "creating state-of-the-art gaming experiences for global audiences."

No suprise is there really? There was only one place most of them were going after leaving IW.

Lets hope they develop some decent games in the next few years that will be better than the crap that was MW2..

Sorry but mw2 was not crap. I only played a little of the mp which IMO was a little boring but the single player was a blast. I'm not really a mp guy anyway, sp ftw Smile

IMO it was crap, maybe not in your eyes.

Its was too short, brought nothing new to the table and was way OTT in the shoddy storytelling. Not to mention what they did with the MP (on PC anyways), they were lucky CoD4 and the games before it were soo good they have been riding on the success of those games this time round.
pRM8 on 23 Apr '10
Single player seemed like an afterthought in MW2. It seemed that all they wanted to do was to create a multiplayer game because they knew they could milk as much money out of the consumer that way with the extortionate map packs.
kimoak on 23 Apr '10
When you see a ton of employees leaving in a space of 2 weeks like what happened at infinityward.
It was pretty obvious in all honesty what the intentions were.

Not only are they now paid better, but they are also respected better.

Fair game.

MW2 wasn't crap - it was abysmal...

and it was the single player that was shockingly bad.

heres hoping respawn take a less arcade, action blockbuster route. don't know though Confused

I think you're in the minority there bud. I thought the single player was utter dross. It was just all over the place and didn't make a bit of sense.

MW2 in general was just a cheap immitator of the original MW.

They tried to make it bigger and better but by doing so they lost what made the first one special.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 23 Apr '10
MW2 was inferior to MW in every sense. In both MP and SP. It pales in comparison. I think that MW was the only shooter I've played through to completion several times, on different sytems, the story was immense. No way in this world was MW2 worth 10/10's it received almost universally.

COD4 SP for me is still the best FPS I've ever played.
Currychips on 23 Apr '10
Sorry 4everutd but it really was sh1t. I am still stunned that it garnered almost universal acclaim and those review scores...? WTF was that about. It was garbage. The sp was embarrassing with it's crappy b-movie story and awful voice acting. I remember getting about 2 hours in and thinking "...what the hell is this dogsh1t... I've been done". MW was a world apart.

Awesome, really look forward to what Respawn will create. Lol @ Activision!

The single player was shocking. I actually thought I bought the wrong game.
MPH on 23 Apr '10
I enjoyed MW2. And I don't think I'm in the minority. Maybe on these boards, but I think most people who bought it enjoyed it.

Still playing MW2 now and loving it, had a wee break for AC2, SCC, Forza and AO2. Map pack is great (que whinging about DLC boo hoo) MW2 has a few key differences from MW1, the gameplay is probably an 8 out 10 rather than 10 out of 10 but it's hardly a crap game. Now Avatar, FIFA 06 and NBA 2K6 are crap games for example.

Oh hum it shall fall on deaf ears I guess well I'll just have to join the tens of thousands still online playing it, guess they are wrong too??

i knew this would happen. didnt i say this would happen? i told you. i told you all. soon Infinity Ward will be no more and respawn will rule the world MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA...now where are my pills?
TroNikzZ on 23 Apr '10
Jesus Christ... How the hell can ANYONE say MW2 was sh*t? It might not have surpassed (or even measured up to) CoD4, but sh*t it most definitely is not.

To lump MW2 as 'sh*t' along with all those terrible movie based games, all those games 'made for children', and anything called 'Vampire Rain' is frankly ludicrous.

Hate the game all you like, but you can NEVER claim it as sh*t.
_Marty_ on 23 Apr '10
I have to laugh at most of the comments here. If you think MW2 is crap, you really need to open your eyes a little and compare it to some of the other games out there.

Single player - fun. Multiplayer - extreme fun.

Sure, the game may be geared towards multiplayer, but seeing as that's what most people bought it for, that's not a particularly bad thing.

The people online relentlessly expressing their distaste for MW2 are vastly outnumbered by the millions worldwide who are actually playing the game and enjoying it. Those figures speak louder than a collection of tired criticisms from people who need to wake up to what qualifies a bad game.

Granted, it's not perfect, but crap it ain't.

Back on track - unsurprising about these hirings, and I'd hate to be in Activision's shoes right now. They've lost some very talented people.

I did compare it with other games out there. I compared it to CoD4 and the other games developed by the very same people and I thought it was a total let down compared to those games.

IW raised the bar with each CoD release but something changed with MW2, it wasn't better than CoD4 in any way. Maybe it was Activision's fault and that's why all the s**t has hit the fan at IW as its clear staff were not happy. Though we may never find out.

At the end of the day everyone has their own opinion, I don't 'hate' the game I just think it was a poor showing from IW and I didn't enjoy it. Oh and dont get me started on Acitivision's overpriced milkage of the RRP! (yes I know you could have bought it in the supermarkets for much cheaper but that isn't the point.)

But if your happy with MW2 that's great for you.
pRM8 on 24 Apr '10
MW2 was a decent game, not as good as COD4 but it wasn't **** . If you want to play a **** game go play something like Haze. There is a big difference
Niick on 25 Apr '10
And I don't know why people complain about the price. I could always buy it cheaper than Nintendo first party titles.
