Sega: Move and Natal attracts 'PS2 type of consumer'

New technology will suit our IP says Sega
Mike Hayes, President of Sega West, believes that PlayStation Move and Project Natal will attract "the PS2 type of consumer" to the respective platforms.

"The thing we like about these [motion control] applications is that they tend to suit the traditional Sega genre," explains Hayes.

"Look at the phenomenal success we've had with games like Mario & Sonic, which effectively is a whole variety of party games that happen to be based on the Olympics. And we've done very well recently with Sega All-Star Racing.

So we actually like the fact that Move and Natal will bring in more of what I'd call the PS2 type of consumer for those platforms, which then suits very much the IP that Sega has. So I'd say we're fully supportive of both equally, because they're both very important partners for us as we try and sell more software."

Those with good memories will recall Sega once put out a motion-control mini-game compilation called Sega Super Stars, which worked with PlayStation2's EyeToy but wasn't particularly good.

Give Hayes' comments, we're bracing ourself for an announcement of a similar game come E3.

Im sorry to differ old boy but sega in its prime rocked. Yes motion controls a bit of a casual toy at the mo but add 3DTV to "move" and could be quiet special,if only just a way to interact with muccas.

Sega in its prime is different to the Sega of now. Even back then, they made some of the most stupid decisions and kept making them, hence no more hardware.

None of Sega's games that I can think of this gen bar except Mario & Sonic have been massive. They're a third rate company both as publisher and developer

PS2 consumer? I don't see that myself at all.
