Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has claimed that he will be left "angry" when work on Gran Turismo 5 is finally complete - and predicted he won't be satisfied with the final product.
Sony has delayed the release of GT5 numerous times - and racing fans are still waiting on a release date.
A firm date is expected at E3 in June - with all eyes pointed towards the end of 2010.
"I'd probably be relieved [to finish development] in terms of having fulfilled my responsibilities, but I may be angry at the same time," Yamauchi told the latest issue of CVG sister mag PSM3.
"As it has been with all of the releases so far, I'm never fully satisfied with what I create."

His comments come as part of a eight-page racing preview spectacular in May's PSM3, which also features F12010, Modnation racers, Blur, Split/Second and more.
He won't be happy with it once it is finished? Customers are p**sed off with him as it should have been out 2 fecking years ago! Tell Yamauchi to get his head out his bottom and get on with it already!
Is it me or does this look so dated now - the textures on them buildings and character models are terrible - the demos both have bland empty tracks with no impressive scenery and look crap compared to the latest driving games.
It may have 1000+ cars and 100s of tracks theyve spent years building - but on an engine 5+ years old it looks like s**t!!!
Get Angry Fast then please, as frankly I am getting to the point where loyalty to a franchise is getting frayed and I just wont buy the game in the end. How long is too long? All I want to do is give you my money, so how about you hurry it up. Damnit!
I couldn't care less. I've owned all GT games and i'll still be picking this up. How can you not own the longest game EVER to be in development..... its become legend!!!! Its not like i haven't got other things to keep me occupied until its release.....
Sounds odd to me too Dimlo, like he's preemptively defending himself. Hmmmm.
And van_halen_rules, I'm sure I've read in at least one of the 10,000 preview articles on GT5 that the "finished" game (and now I have to put finished in quotes because Yamauchi himself says it will never really be done) will have textures, models, pretty much everything that are far better looking than the demo and Prologue.
I can't believe it's been 6 years six GT4 was released! I'm sick of the wait, but I miss my GT!

just you mate.
the engine moves with the times. it isn't a static thing.
He needs to get off his high horse, what a cheek. Has he thought about the unsatisfied consumers out there STILL waiting for this damn game? What about Sony losing money from these constant delays from his studio? I'm sure Sony's guys are as extremely unsatisfied as we are.

Sure! I can't wait to drive 900 different versions of the Skyline among all those cars . As for the tracks - six words...normal, reverse, normal mirrored, mirrored reversed.
Back on topic - I think more GT fans are angrier than he could possibly be(including me)after waiting five+ years for a game that was apparently supposed to be released two years ago, and it STILL dosn't even have a release date.
Ok, i guess maybe its not as bad as I made out - but this could have been released ages ago and updated with free / pay for downloadable content like Forza was if this idiot was never going to be happy with it.
"...delayed numerous times..." - Really CVG? As far as I was aware the game has been officially delayed once. The rest have been speculative estimates - largely by the media - later dismissed. I mean I can't wait for the game to come out but I hardly think encouraging people's frustration and impatience is going to help.
After how long it took for the PSP GT game to turn up especially seeing as it was announced and hyped back before the handheld launched I'm surprised people are shocked at how long GT5 has been in development for.
360 fanboys out in force i see. If Turn 10 were not rushed into releasing Forza maybe the online wouldnt be broken...just a thought!!
Its annoying but GT5 will get released when its released....this year, It wont live up to the hype but neither do alot of games so get over it already.
i dont have much confidence in the guy that makes it. he's been singing this game like its got angels comming out of its bottom for years. yeah you could say he's passionate about the game when he does all that, altho i think it makes him look arrogant.
after all the time in the world he's had with it and 3 Forza's later, as well as the usual racers which on the whole aint been that bad, he now says it isnt good enough.
call me a cynic, but it sounds like a pre emptive appology.
i really really hope im wrong about this because like most of us on here who love our racing games, really do want it to be a huge success i think.
@Zero Cool, thank you for your opinion and insight. What the hell is with this site? I swear that this news is part of the last GT5 story they ran, seriously they have the exact same citations . No wonder people get tired of hearing about GT5, news popping up for no reason and having nothing to do with the game coming out, or anything that was revealed recently about it. This could have been said in the last story they ran...
Nothing wrong with Kaz not being contempt with the bar they set, that is what keeps gaming fresh. Before someone starts downing GT5, remember it has posted impressive sales since it's inception and it widely known. I like Kaz's quirky attitude and always trying to further his brainchild, it's dedication like that that gives you cars like the Chapparal 2J, Mercedes SLR McLaren and the Veyron. As long as PD keeps churning out awesome GT games I will continue to purchase them. Bring it on!
Seriously this game had better blow Forza out of the water with such a ridiculously long development cycle, i was starting to believe that this game would never be released.
The constant moaning about GT5 is getting old very quickly.
The release HAS only been officially delayed once. It will sound cliche but Rome wasn't built in a day.
Do you want the developers to rush out a half-ar5ed attempt at a racing game?
The game will arrive eventually and if it does turn out to be a polished turd then you can all sit back and say you were right. But - if it turns out to be the best game of it's genre or even of all time then you can say that the wait was worth it.

I think it is okay to be not completely happy with your final product as long as it motivates you to better yourself next time round. Authors are never completely satisfied when they omplete a book, for instance.
I am going to get an utter grilling for this post but I don't really care.
The guy is a creative artist, of course he wil never be happy with what he releases. There is ALWAYS more you can do to your creative works, extra touches you can make, more code optimasation, extra features, etc. The process can be never ending if you let it, but making a video game sadly can not be like this becuase the code must be compiled and sold to other people!
People are complaining about a game that is been in development for 5 years. Why? You have enough other games to play, you are going to be given something that is no rush job and has been cooked to perfection. How many studios get this chance to take there time and make something really special? Barely ever, so why not let PD take thir time and really put out something that is going to be great.
I can't believe I'm reading all this again. Bloody hell!
I'd agree with only777 up to a point. There is a point when you overdo something, or the extra work isn't worth the effort. He isn't simply creating a piece of art for himself as some personal project - he is making a product.
Too much can clutter it up, get away from what makes it intrinsically great - it happens in music a lot when bands get 'big' or put pressure on themselves with past success. It's why every Mario Kart has disappointed me compared to the SNES version.
Being a programmer is creative, but I can't ever see myself saying a driving sim game is art. Making a car handle realistically, or light to reflect realistically isn't art IMO.
If the differences are going to be minimal (nobody knows if this is the case or not I guess), fans of the game would rather have been playing it for the last year or so, with some title updates to make any improvements. Same could be said of any delayed, hyped title though, it's just GT is the biggest franchise to go through all this I suppose.
But ultimately, if Sony give him the freedom, it's totally up to him when it's 'finished'.

Sit tight.
Sorry buddy, but after 5 years people are entitled to moan. Not sure how you figure it has only been delayed once either, I would google that.
Half a decade as a development cycle puts enormous pressure on the developer, as clearly the production has not been 100% plain sailing.
Of course Yamauchi won't be happy when it is released. I think I can say with some confidence that it will not be worth the wait, and nothing that has been released for the game would suggest as much. Yamauchi finds himself trapped, with an almost impossible expectation to meet. I almost feel sorry for him. then I read comments like the above.
When it comes out it's still just going to be a driving game, it's not going to be anything we haven't seen before, just hopefully done better. Having said that, if they manage to put the features in that the team wants to implement then it will be a brilliant racer.
I'm really enjoying Forza 3 at the moment; it's probably the best racer I've played so far but it definately has areas I'd improve. If GT5 manages to be a better game then my PS3 purchase is a sure thing.
It is my understanding that the numerous other delays were only based on media speculated release dates.
So what if it takes 5 years to complete - so what if it takes longer? It's not like there haven't been other games released in the last five years.
How can you be so self-assured that it won't be worth the wait - what are you basing that massive assumption on?
I was merely commenting on the propensity for people to moan about release dates - saying that they're not going to buy it because it has taken so long to develope is ridiculous.
If Turn 10 were not rushed into releasing Forza maybe the online wouldnt be broken...just a thought!!
I'm sorry, but in what way exactly is 'Forza's online broken'? I've been playing Forza 2 for years and Forza 3 since launch and never had a single problem?
