MGS Peace Walker 'uncut' in West

PSP Metal Gear has scene cut in Japan
Hideo Kojima has revealed that the Western version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be the 'uncut' version, much to his disappointment.

Kojima revealed on Twitter last night that the PSP Metal Gear had a scene removed from the Japanese version in order to keep it from getting an 18 rating equivalent in the country.

Kojima says that the PSP is supported by a younger audience and so during Peace Walker's production the staff made the effort to avoid 'grotesque' scenes.

However, there's "a certain scene", a "standard element" that's "absolutely necessary for MGS," that apparently could not make it under a 15 rating equivalent in Japan, so they had it removed.

The European and North American versions of the game are the original version without the adjustments made for the Japanese version.

Kojima expectedly isn't happy about the need to remove content from his game. He wrote: "There's tolerance for fantasy games, but for games where you show war or real violence between people, you apparently can't complain about anything. With this, it seems impossible to communicate something through games."

If his previous games are anything to go by, I doubt anyone will have a clue what's going on anyway.

Laughing

I wonder if there'll be any Japanese people importing this for the extra scene? I know us westerners do that sometimes, but I'm guessing it's not as common over there.

It puzzles me why anyone really should care.
jazzy_p on 16 Apr '10
I absolutely love the MGS games, but I find it really hard to care about this game purely because it is on PSP.

I feel his frustration slitely. I guess the only other option would be to release it as an 18 in Japan and hope people ignor the rating as they usually do Rolling EyesLaughing .

1 scene removed, game length drops by around an hour.

it's probably just useless exposition anyway, where Snake manages to keep a conversation going endlessly through the tried and tested "I'm not actually listening tactic" of just repeating the last few words of the sentence in the form of a question.

e.g

Colonel: Snake!
Snake: What!
Colonel: there's a bomb
Snake: bomb?
Colonel: Yes, in the nuclear test facilty!
Snake: Nuclear test facility
Colonel: yes, across from the abandoned S.L.E.C.A.C HQ
Snake: S.L.E.C.A.C HQ?
Colonel: yes, the Strategic Lengthy Exposition Cutscene Activation Center, its where if your next response is a question, I will ramble on about nuclear disarmament and needlessly overcomplicated story arcs while archive footage and haunting music play in the background. Done in part to shoehorn a "reality" to this nonsense, but mainly because no one else answers my codec calls and I'm lonely.
Snake: Lonely?
Colonel: That counts...In 1954 the Russian military began ............................

anyhoo
I made this into a game, try the tactic on your friends during any conversation. 1 point for every time you keep the conversation going, 5 bonus points if you can seemlessly start talking in Snake voice without them noticing.
