Kojima: 'If I mess up next project, I'll leave industry'

No pressure as Metal Gear chief hypes up next project
Hideo Kojima has said he'll leave the industry if he misses up his next project.

The bizarre statement came via Kojima's own Twitter account, as the Metal Gear chief starts to pile pressure on himself for his next title.

"The next project will challenge a certain type of taboo," Kojima explains. "If I mess up, I'll probably have to leave the industry. However, I don't want to pass by avoiding that. I turn 47 this year. It's been 24 years since I started making games. Today, I got an ally who would happily support me in that risk. Although it's just one person. For a start, it's good."

He could be referring to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker or he could be referring to anything project that he hasn't officially revealed yet. That's part of the fun in the mysterious world of Kojima - no-one really knows what's going on apart from the man himself.

Still, what taboos could he possibly be challenging? Thoughts and speculation in the comments below please...

kojima san talks out of his anus
just leave the industry and let some new tallent flourish
you stupid bloated hyped up spin master.

Hopefully this means his next project will something new and something that tries to be different and interesting like MGS2. Since he clearly hasn't enjoyed making games since the majority of MGS fans ignored what he tried to do for the second game almost solely because "Raiden is a hermaphrodite".

I'm sure he will...Just like 50 cent said he would if Kanye sold more albums than he did... Wink

A certain type of taboo? Child abuse? Incest? MGS5 on Wii?

Overrated and crap. He should leave... should have left years ago

Perhaps he's going to make a game that doesn't try to be a soap opera?

ANYTHING KOJIMA PRO CREATES WILL BE A PERFECT MASTERPIECE. I JUST HOPE IT'S A PS3/360 ZOE 3/SNATCHER/POLICENAUTS (OR ANYTHING SCI-FI). JUST IMAGINE A TITLE LIKE MASS EFFECT YET JAPANESE WITH THE HIGH PRODUCTION VALUES, GRAPHICS TECH, CINEMATICS, & DEEP STORY OF MGS 4 (WHICH WAS A GRAND MASTERPIECE ON ALL LEVELS - KOJIMA'S MAGNUM OPUS. IT'S BY FAR THE BEST GAME/MOVIE EVER CONCEIVED & IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE BEING TOPPED, EVEN BY KOJIMA HIMSELF). OH YEAH, I'M STILL PRAYING FOR SOME IN-ENGINE FOOTAGE/SCREENS OF MGS RISING......

I don't think he needs to worry too much, but good luck to him! I completed MGS4 just over a week ago and it had some awesome gameplay (apart from the "Young" Snake European mission!), that almost got drowned out by those f**king cut-scenes.

I know they could be skipped, but I like to know what's going on in the games I play. Whatever the project is, I hope the cut-scenes are kept shorter than an episode of Family Guy. Cool

pretentious prick job.

Laughing You make me laugh Grasshopper.

So many people bitch and whine about the cutscenes. Were they expecting MGS4 to be any different to the other games?

Or they could just skip them? But no, they 'have' to watch them or else they won't know what's going on in a story they don't care about. Rolling Eyes

I don't get why people are so harsh on Kojima. He may say some fairly incomprehensible things, but to me he is one of the few who treat games like an art form.
Also, if you actually pay attention to the storylines of the Metal Gear games there are some very interesting philosophical and political discussions and ideas.
Also, if you hate cutscenes so much then why don't you just skip them? I've never understood this compliant since the advent of skippable cutscenes . . .

Come on something Snatcher related!

Kojima is f**king crazy and I love him for it!
churchy on 15 Apr '10
Don't want to start an arguement svd but that response was a bit harsh. Generally I have to watch/play something through to decide if I like it or not and give a critique.
Judging something he hadn't finished or seen through fully would make him pretentious.

Coming from a culture that still occasionally sees ritual suicide committed for professional failure, leaving the industry isn't perhaps the biggest claim Kojima could have offered.

It's not like that at all. As I said, the gameplay was outstanding and I wanted to know what was going on. They just stretched the cut-scenes out too long.
Black Mantis on 15 Apr '10
Kojima would never leave anyway - he wouldn't be able to get his over inflated ego out of the door.

I did actually care about the story and there were parts of the scenes that were important/good to know, which is why I let them play out.

If you take out the gameplay isn't that pretty much what MGS4 is. a 9 hour film about the war economy.

Wasn't a bad film mind you.

Cut scenes are all well and good, but I don't want to sit there static for 30 minutes watching a cut scene. After all, games are supposed to be interactive. That's why I haven't bothered with any MGS games.

Kojima is a bit bat guano loco though.. Perverted sense of humor.

GOOD! your games are over hyped PISH anyway.

I say f**k off, go on then!

Yup, that's what puts me off them too. I really enjoyed the original MGS on the PS1, but the cutscenes got out of control after that.

It's an odd situation really, I find the story over-complicated, cliche-ridden and convoluted - yet, I wouldn't ever willingly skip a cutscene in a game, I just wouldn't want to miss any of the story....however bad it may be.

It is a bit of a strange one. You get games like Heavy Rain that seem like interactive movies from what I can tell. Interaction is lower overall compared to MGS but it is spread out more. Nature of the Genre's I guess.

He's Bluffing. He said that MGS3 was the last MGS game then the same for MGS3 then MGS4. Now not this LMFAO JOKER. He said that to get more attention it helps advertise our new MGS PSP exclusive. He can't leave the industry.
