Mario Galaxy 2 gets story details

Japanese magazine Famitsu has got the scoop on the Super Mario Galaxy 2 storyline.

Mario Galaxy aside, the plumber's adventures aren't exactly known for their involving storylines so fans are looking forward to seeing what this is all about, especially given the slightly baffling ending to the first Wii game.

Anyway, the magazine features a picture of an invitation from Peach in the magazine and according to a translation, Peach's invite says:-

Dear Mario,

Do you fancy watching the shooting stars, whilst eating cake?

I'll be waiting at the castle.

Peach.

The storyline translation is as follows: 'This is one more stardust fairytale. Only once in a hundred years does stardust fall on the Mushroom Kingdom. As such, Peach invites Mario to the castle to watch. On his way over, Mario spots a mysterious light.

'He cautiously approaches it, and finds... a small, lost baby star. The star - 'Baby Chico' - follows Mario to the castle, but what is waiting for them there is...'

Elsewhere there are reports that Baby Chico can use a spin attack to actually take out enemies rather than just pause their movement.

Other information that we can gather from the scans concerns the Toads that starred in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the Luma.

One screenshot appears to reveal that the pair of Toads who you can control in last year's Wii platformer look set to make an appearance in the game while another report reckons that a second player will be able to control the Luma.
